Dealership curbed my wheel! :(

I just went to Honda to get the oil changed in my Si. I get the keys and walk around the car and my front driver's side wheel is curbed. I just got the wheels in August of last year. Ridiculous. The service manager wants to repair it which means I get to leave my car with them again and get a loaner. I'm trying to get them to just buy me another wheel. The wheels are Motegi Racing Sp10s polished. They said that if the repair job isn't mint then they will end up buying me another wheel anyway. We'll see what happens. I still can't believe I had to find the curb rash instead of them telling me. Frustrating and waste of my time, but everything should work out I guess.

i would fight them to just buy you a new wheel... and when it comes in, they should call you to come in and swap the tire onto the new wheel and put it on your car...

i would not be satisfied with them just fixing it... if the wheel repair looks good but is still half assed, you are screwed... you gave them the car with a new wheel, they need to give you back a new one... not a fixed, damaged wheel..

They probably didn't tell you because it was one of the detail guys who did it.....and subsequently didn't say a word hoping it would just go away unnoticed.

I used to be one of those detail guys in another life, that's just how they roll.

Manager is doing the stand up thing though, many dealerships out there would tell you "it was that way when it came in". Consider your cloud silver-lined.

Best,

Just talked to the service manager again. I called Discount Tire to get a quote and told the manager that I just wanted a new wheel, especially since I've heard some bad stuff about repairing polished wheels. He told me that the repair would be mint, but if it isn't then he would have to buy me a wheel anyway. The 18s in that wheel only run $160. He is contacting his wheel repair guy, and then I should hear back soon about the decision.

That's terrible! My local dealership recently cracked the paint on my Versus lip and will not own up to it...

At least in your case, they are willing to try to fix it so that's a really good thing. G'luck!

What decision? Its your decision, push for the new wheel, if for no other reason than they tried to cover it up. Best of luck.

Feel for ya. I had an Acura body shop put two screw driver holes in my passenger seat leather when I had my CL-S in for a front bumper repair. They didn't say a word to me, I discovered it thankfully right before I left the parking lot. They ended up buying a new seat cover after a bunch of back and forth blaming, but at first they were suggesting an interior repair service. I kept to my guns and eventually they gave in and put the new seat cover on it. So frustrating when professional people don't do a professional job. Good luck and hopefully either the repair is perfect or you get a new wheel out of it.

Thanks. I remember when that happened to you. I was furious for you.

Well, if they do the repair, and its a good job, then you'll be OK. But be real particular. And when they say the repair is done, have them put it on a balance machine and see if they f'ed up the wheel balance. If so, then demand a new wheel. Cosmetics are one thing, but an off balance wheel should be replaced.

if a brand new wheel is only 160, i would emphasize to the service manager that the repair will cost about 100... and there is a risk that it isn't done perfectly, he will have to shell out another 160 to get you a new wheel.. why not just get the new wheel in the first place???

if they need to sand down the wheel and then fill it to make it even, the balance will def be off if they don't use the same material as the wheel to fill it... (aluminum, steel, bondo, etc) i have seen all too many 'discount' places take the cheap approach and it wouldn't last a year before the finish began to chip...

oh yeah if they still go ahead with repairing it and it looks good... make sure there is a warranty!!!

No way in hell I would accept a "fixed" rim...

that's why i hate dealerships. they want to charge you up the ass and then if they mess up, they still don't want to do what's right. i'd push for a new wheel too. it's not like it's an $700 rim

I just found that one of my wheels has been lightly curbed, and I suspect the dealership, since I am the only driver and I dont park anywhere that even has a curb the only thing is, I took it to the dealership about 3 weeks ago and just noticed it this weekend, too late now I guess, but it pisses me off that these guys are not more careful.

Motegi wheels are really cheap. It's absurd they would be around a $100 or so rather then buying a new wheel for $150. I also had two wheels damaged on the alignment machine back in 2003. I told them to be careful about the wheels specifically and they still fcked it up. They ended up refinishing the wheels but the color was off. I made them buy two new wheels for me after I threatened them with a letter.

I would just show them the cost of a new one and explain best you can that bothering to try and repair a wheel like this is not worth the minor cost savings.

The service manager just called and told me he is going to replace the wheel. He is going to contact my guy at Discount Tire to get the wheel ordered up and then I'll just go to Discount here in a week or so to get it replaced. Good stuff. Thanks for the support guys and listening to me rant! Take care.

Good job. That dealer should get more business, just keep the car from the piehole that screwed up your wheel.
