Fun Car?

For a second car for fun, what do you think would be the best choice?

Middle of the road...no more than $45k. This all hypothetical. I really like the new A4.

Meh...too tall in the torso for the S2K although it is a sweet little machine.

Cayman is sweet...Boxster is alright so long as it's an S. I'm picky when it comes to cars.

Pinto + 302 + T5 = win. Use the remaining 30k to get another car...

+ whatever.

Now, for more of a project that you can tweak, the M5 is something to look at. That's always been a favorite of mine. But fun is in the 3 cars above.

What do you have for a FIRST car that you would consider spending $45k on a SECOND car?

Also, while I like all of those cars on your list, none of them would be my idea of a "fun" second car seeing as how they all are exceptional daily drivers.

All those in the poll are great 1st cars or daily drivers... I don't think I'd pick any of 'em for an fun car....

Your list is much better... I'd go S2k or used 911... or if on the cheap, a miata.

Out of the list in the poll, I'd get the Gen coupe 2.0T for a summer daily driver, and keep my CL as a 2nd car/winter beater...

Racer Walsh used to supply a lot of road racing parts for the pintos back then...

Lots of guys over on fordpinto.com and the yahoo pinto groups like swapping the 2.3T motor out of the Merkurs... 2500lbs with 200hp (stock) goes pretty good.

I like the E39 M5 and Miata as I've owned both but for a fun second car around 45k, we're getting dangerously close to a CPO 05 C2S, if not a Cayman would do just fine.

with everyone that has said none of those choices you listed above makes a good choice as a fun second car. Second cars are about a lack of practicality so something like a 2-seater convertible is what you should look for in a second car. Even a true 2-seat coupe would make a better choice than any of the cars you listed.

$45k can get you a lot of car.

Go used and you're going to have a lot of options.

2007 Cayman S
2006 911 Carrera

Those aren't bad choices.

The reason my poll has such conservative cars is that I'm not an ostentatious person. I don't like to draw attention to myself; hence not being a big Lotus, Porsche, S2000 guy. That and I love sleepers which is why I'm especially attracted to the RS6 and M5. They all look like run of the mill grocery-getters (which they can be) but make awesome fun cars in which you can take three of your closest friends to dinner and rack up speeding tickets at the same time.

That's how I used to be. I was seriously devoted to sleeper cars, and the RS4/M5 has always been one of my "realistic dream cars." Then I was seriously interested in the Legacy GT for a while....

ultimately I ended up with a Camaro

Trust me when I say this.... for a FUN car, it needs to be at least a little raw and rough around the edges. That way you can actually have fun doing stupid things without actually feeling stupid
