I thought car makers did stress tests like this on engines during the design phase. I read somewhere that all engines are revved at redline for hours at a time to determine reliability. They shouldn't catch fire certainly....

Not really the case with these cars, esp. when the engines are built by hand & thus, can vary by car.

Someday, an RS6 Avant+
So, why the low fuel deal at auto shows? Does it have to do with vapors?

The same reason cars being transported by train or ship only have enough fuel to get onto and off of the transport.
Although, I have seen a train car full of 8 brand new Ram 3500s catch fire. That was pretty cool and kind of depressing at the same time.

The ability to catch on fire in odd ways is standard equipment on all Italian cars. It's one of their government regulations just like having front airbags is in the US.

Two morons in this story:
1. Staffer, for doing this.
2. Owner, for not taking the time to do this him/herself.
Jeez.
