For my lazy friends - Portland auto show staffer starts a (privately owned) Gallardo on fire by bouncing the engine off its limiter for minutes on end to empty the gas tank.

I thought car makers did stress tests like this on engines during the design phase. I read somewhere that all engines are revved at redline for hours at a time to determine reliability. They shouldn't catch fire certainly....
private owner should have known about how much gas should have been allowed in tank.
iirc, SEMA lets you only have 1/4 tank of gas or less in cars before entering or something like that.
i'm pretty sure other shows are no different.

Not really the case with these cars, esp. when the engines are built by hand & thus, can vary by car.

Or just pull the fuse for the gauges like I have done at several shows
Production is different from the design world.
Gallardo fire sale ..
The same reason cars being transported by train or ship only have enough fuel to get onto and off of the transport.
Although, I have seen a train car full of 8 brand new Ram 3500s catch fire. That was pretty cool and kind of depressing at the same time.

The ability to catch on fire in odd ways is standard equipment on all Italian cars. It's one of their government regulations just like having front airbags is in the US.
