Crazy accidents

Biggest F1 crash I've ever seen. The last one looked pretty nasty.

Boy, you know you're gettin' old when you can remember most of those wrecks and the names of the guys involved.

The F1 crash at the end was Spa 1998.

They also had Christian Fittipaldi running up the back of his Minardi teammate Pierluigi Martini at Monza in 1993. That race was actually Michael Andretti's best finish in F1, 3rd.

The F3 cars piling into the crowd was at Thruxton in the early 90's, the only fatality from that was a guy having a heart attack in the crowd.

Never seen that fatal burning sports car wreck. Very ugly.

PJ Jones running up over a stopped Brian Herta at Road Atlanta (?).

Then Greg Moore buying it at California Speedway.

Yannick Dalmas backflipping a Porsche GT-1 at Road America (1998)

Peter Dumbreck doing the same at Lemans in a Mercedes CLR in 2000.

The rally wrecks are the craziest, IMO.

My favorite is the Mercedes CLR flipping end over end in the middle of nowhere at Le Mans.

Well, no one was hurt, and the study of the aerodynamics that resulted in the crashes are facinating.

Nope, not sure. Educated guess but I could be very wrong.

That video was posted on here before, and I'm pretty sure it was not "fatal" (someone posted a link to a news article or something)

There is an extended version of that video (which I can't find right now) that shows him getting out of the car and stumbling around.

Survived and got a little cash out of the deal.

Also, the claim of "Biggest crash in NASCAR history" is BS too.

I couldn't help but laugh at the F1 crash. The thought of all those millions of dollars of carbon fiber made be chuckle...

so at 1.3 millionish per car, and there was like 23 cars, that's more than a quarter of a billion

Correct. The first one wasn't so bad. The second time it happened though, the car was launched 30 ft into the air and landed in the woods at the daytona/rolex 24 hrs I believe.
Turns out the front cannards were creating lift when the car was in the slipstream of another, causing the front end to lift.

isn't it crazy how a sport that is as expensive as F1 can exist in such a seemingly dreary and oftentimes dwindling world??? I mean.. .these people are spending RIDICULOUS amounts of money every year... with 10 teams, it's almost a billion dollars a season just spent on maintenance of the cars... and that's assuming the pic above represents amounts for BOTH cars on a team.... if it's only for one car, then its about 2 billion per season.

I mean we hear of stock markets going down, gas prices going insanely high, crude oil issues, all that other crap... and these guys are spending almost $1mil per season on STICKERS.

WTF
