Cousin left his hand brake on...Question
My careless cousin somehow (it is beyond me) failed to notice that he had left his hand brake on while following me the whole way to the closest Ford dealership (15 miles)!! He usually has the hand brake up pretty high and tight because he use to live in a very mountainous area.
It's about a 15 mile trip and about 5-6 miles on the highway going 70 following me. The car is a neglected 99' pos Ford Escort in the first place, but I was curious, what damage could he have caused? I'm guessing he probably wore out the rear pads pretty bad and could have possibly warped the rotors.

Alright cool. I'll take a look at those things.
Naw he wasn't dragging a tire, but he probably wouldn't have noticed if he was. It would have been cool though.
I heard a squeeling noise from the brakes when we came out of my driveway since I had my windows down, but I didn't think much of it because that car makes so many damn squeeks and squeals. We call it the red vibrator because of all the shakes, sounds and noises it makes. I forget if he has discs or drums in the rear, I'll check next time he comes over, which I think is tommorow.

Hell no, he didn't drive my car, just followed me to the ford dealership in his. Only people that can drive my car are: me, dad, mom, best friend, and my mechanic.
BTW he didn't stop by today so I didn't get to look at his brakes.
He NEVER HAS and NEVER WILL drive my car.

LoL you don't want to know the other shit he did on the drive to another shop (the ford dealership was wack as hell). Let's just say I now know how it sounds when you try to turn on the car when the car is already on.
I feel bad for who gets that red vibrating ford next.
My CLS is in great hands though, I treat it like a queen. My friends say I'm obsessed (in a good way).

good hear that you are taking care of your car. I take care of my car as well. I just can't understand those people drive such a nice cars and treat their car like some pos.
A camera phone picture of it for the hell of it from a few months ago:

According to Pat (Excel detail): oxidation. I had already removed half of it, talk about a pain in the ass! That dent on the hood is a 'mystery' as to how it happened, it looks like a meterorite hit it.
His mom and dad have taken great care of me when I was little and still when I visit, so I help them out by keeping his car running and looking decent for them since they live so far away.

I showed the picture of the paint in the Wash & Wax forum on here and he said that it was oxidation.
Doesn't all FWD have a hub which houses the drum brakes (for handbrake/e brake) on the rear even if they have rear disc brakes....?
It should be a whole separate mechanism from your rear disc brakes (assuming you have disc brakes on the rear), so it's not really an issue...

as suggested above for "all FWD", this may also be the case on many RWD cars; my RWD '95 Supra has a separate little drum housing on the rear for the emergency brake, so it's not even using the primary disc brakes for that.
