Are cops using a new type of RADAR?!!?
So they have one of those standing radars that tell you your speed in my town. (Roselle)
Well i drove passed it and it clocked me at what my speed was and shows it on its screen while flashing. Yes, i know these are everywhere and not somthing new.
But my V1 didnt go off!!
SO then i change settings and put the V1 on A and still nothing. So im thinking my V1 is messed up cuz it always goes off when i pass these things.
I had my buddy come over today and we take his car over to it. Sure enough, his V1 didnt go off either.
Whats the deal?

Same thing down this way J. I'm not sure what it is, but my V1 doesn't go off either. It's weird.

POP would have nothing to do with this, IMHO... POP is for instant-on functionality. And we all know these roadside speed signs don't have the latest technology.
And it isn't an X-band, and I don't have anything filtered/disabled on my V1.

If the V1 wont detect it then im sure most other radars wont either.....
and damn Scrib, i thought it was just POP. I was going to send my V1 to get updated for it. Guess its time to watch my speed

I would think that there has to be some radar that would pick this up, no?
Would the goofy stand alone speed thingys pick up speed and radar detectors not detect it?
Jesal's V1 and mine are just about the same age, but he had his first. Mine didn't pick it up either

The reason laser guns — also called LIDAR, for Light Detection and Ranging — are rapidly gaining popularity is simple: They cannot be detected until after they have already made a speed measurement. That's because a laser beam's width is considerably smaller than a radar beam's.

Again... I can't imagine the police are spending a lot of money to get some type of new technology, like LIDAR, in one of these.
All the surrounding radars used by police in their cars, I have no problem detecting. Very, VERY strange.

There's two possible reasons fro this;
1. The radar trailer is using a non-standard police frequency to monitor traffic. This is done when the DOT and others need to survey traffic but don't want to notify those with radar detectors which may screw with actual results. I've never seen it on a police radar trailer though.
2. The trailed was using laser pointed at a low, static spot on the road. As you car passed, it passed through this spot and reflected a reading. This "spot" being low enough and/or at an angle to tight for the detector to sense, usually 200-300 feet tight to the side of the road near the right headlight.

I posted this on eurotek and someone with an X50 passed the same radar and said he got a K band warning.
I might send V1 an email about this..

My V1 cannot pickup this radar
So over the holiday period my V1 was detecting radar K and Ka band all over the place, it works just fine. Then I see this radar speed sign on the side of the highway, it tells you how fast you are going. You've seen these before, they are mobile, they standalone, the police drop them off in position, and your radar detector can pickup the radar signal from these a mile away....has been for decades. Absolutely nothing different about this one except....
This particular one I could not detect it. I drove right up on it when all of sudden I could see my speed 71 in a 65. But not a peep from the V1. So I circle back and since this is propped up alongside the highway with no cops in sight, I'm going to try to blow up the double-digit reading. Anyway, I ran thru it again and while I could see my numbers and all the other car's speed readings....nothing from V1. I think they are using radar on some other frequency and since they aren't using it to issue tickets, they think it is ok (which it isn't). Maybe the OPP is trying to get some realistic good data, I just feel funny about the police targeting radar detectors owners (which they haven't done since instant-on radar, then pop radar). Does anyone know of a new frequency out there?
BTW, I know this was radar in use because I could see the speed reading getting updated every second or so with different cars passing and when this one car in the right lane was clocked 67 in a 65, I could see that 67/68 for a long time (as I approached in the left lane) until I got right up on the sign and it popped over to 91 and started blinking when I got really close. From my past experience, that's how radar works. You can't get this with laser and there were no lines across the freeway.
