Convince me to keep my 2001 CL-S . . .

Purchased in March of 2000 and has 85,000 miles. Inside and outside looks like it just came off the dealers lot. Been paid for for 5 years. New trans at 61,000 miles. I know resale sucks because of the glass transmissions. Just came back from test driving a G35. I am feeling major LUST! Dis a search and got nothing. Opinions wanted.

If you're talking about the G35 coupe, wait until the new one comes out sometime next year before you do anything. It's going to be a beast!

Saw it at the L.A Auto show, and my wife and I actually like the looks of the current model better.

Even the interior? imo the interior of the new g35 blows away the old one. Theres also a bunch of other things too, like Nav traffic, a standard LCD screen, paddle shifters, more power etc etc.

Going to write a big check. Getting old has its advantages.
But I am still a poor college student at heart and writing big checks still hurts like hell. (nickle nose)

This usually does it for me... My CL 6spd is paid off too, and I'm itching for a new car, but I'd hate to have to get into car payments again...

With 100K miles coming up, and the whole auto transmission issue, I can understand you wanting to move on...

Even tho you like the current gen G35c, don't let the dealer know, and use the fact that the next gen G35c is coming next year to get a good price on the 07 coupes...

If i had CASH to buy another car then i would at least wait a bit to see what the new G35 coupe has to offer.

Even if you dont think the new coupe is worth it, then at least you will be able to get a better deal on the leftover 07s that are on the lots.

My car is paid off in October, im counting down. I lose my itch to get a new car when i think about that.

Like I tell the wife, I have to get old, but I don't have to grow up!
Also drove the IS350, but I have always been partial to coupes.
Bet this one cornered like a pig!

If you can afford it and this year is the best year for you to do this financially, I say go for it! If you're in love with the G35 and aren't too concerned with what's coming up for next year, then you've found your car! Enjoy it! I'd take it for another test drive though to be sure. Personally, I'd wait for a good time of year to purchase so you can get the best pricing....just time it well for the best discounts if you're not in immediate need of a new car.

I'm getting rid of my '99 TL with ~169,000 kms due to the infamous tranny issues. Knowing that it is on its way to fail (showing some symptoms) and since I'm well beyond warranty, it's just not worth it to me.

Six or seven years old? You've gotten your money's worth! Technology and luxury have moved on. Now you'll have intelligent key, bluetooth, 2d & 3d Nav (please don't skip this option!), plus RWD and more power than the CL-S! How can you lose? I would NOT pay more for the BMW propeller logo...

I can't give a man that is older than my dad advice on a car purchase, but I can say that once you drive the new G coupe, you'll fall in love. good luck

Well the G35 Coupe is off the list. Did a extended test drive this morning and the guy responsible for the placement of the drivers power seat controls should be shot!. They would drive me nuts on a long road trip. Best I can do at this time on a IS350 is invoice +$2500.00, not happy with that deal. Think the CL-S will be around a little longer.

Is the CL-S your primary car? If so, might be time for it to go. If not, it's still a nice backup. Glad you are in better shape then I am, climbing in and out of a low coupe is more than I care to look forward to at this point.

We considered the G coupe but the interior and seat height were not good things. The IS350 at or below invoice would be attractive. I'm not at all interested in paying over invoice for anything. Keep us posted.

The new G35 coupe will have its seat controls placed at the usual position

We didn't convince you, but you did a pretty good job yourself...

As long as you don't mind the fact that it's FWD, the CL is and always has been a great bang for the buck. There's not much out there that compares...

I like to call the CL a "compromise" car... It does alot of things very well. There are cars that are quicker or more stylish, but they always have something missing... Wheither it be iffy fuel economy, lack of truck space, unrefined interior, purchase price, etc etc, it's always something... Acura really put a great all around package together for a coupe in the CL. It's really too bad that they discontinued it without trying to take it to the next level. Or maybe it's just a matter of time before they do take a coupe to the next level

Great idea that you took it out for another test drive before making a final decision. Purchasing a car is a big deal, especially if you don't like trading them in every two years. I'm sure the CL will treat you well until you find something else that grabs your eye, whether it be now or down the road.

Dan, greenie said it best.. I think you've convinced yourself. Obviously you're itching for a new car, get it... you deserve it..... you only live once. Just continue to be patient and get something you really love.

i dont see why you'd want to keep a car with such an unreliable tranny...

If people have to convince you to keep your car, you obviosuly don't really want it. I say get a new one if you can swing it financially.

I enjoyed my CLS, when I had it, but ultimately sold it due to the two transmission failures in the first 10,000 miles of the car.

I didn't want another car payment, but felt it was necessary given the safety concerns I had. If I didn't have any transmission issues, would I have sold it? Probably not.

I replaced the CLS with a 2003 G35 coupe 6MT and loved it. Ultimately got rid of it to make room for a more practical "baby buggy". It's a great car and if you have the means to do it, why not.

wo. that is a bit on the excessive side. were you one those guys who picked the car up from the dealership after a tranny replacement just to have it break down again around the corner?

Basically.

The first one went out going 55mph heading into Chicago for an interview. The second one, was a litle more tame... I lost reverse trying to back out of the garage.
