Continental Tires
Continental Tires
Is there any reason I should buy Continental Tires over the other brands? I see on Tirerack.com Conti tires are never near the top in scores . Usually they are in the mid level so that means average or just ok but outside of their Contiextreme Contact tire its not cheap for the performance they deliver.
I told someone I would buy Conti tires a long time ago and you know I like to keep my word on things but cant seem to buy something so average that is priced just as much better brands.

I have the ContiExtremeContacts on my Vdub, very happy with them. And they weren't that expensive (225/40/18) either... What tire size are you looking for?
I know there are a few new tires out now, look pretty decent too, like the Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S, the BFGoodrich GForce Super Sport A/S tires...it all depends what kind of performance you're looking for and how much you want to spend. You'll never find the BEST tire also being the cheapest. You have to compromise somewhere...

According to Tirerack, 3rd best Ultra High Performance A/S tire around. Ratings look pretty favorable too, which is why I got them (also for snow traction, it has the best ratings for snow traction of the 25 or so UHP tires they tested).

Contis are standard on cars like BMW, Mercedes, and Porsche so I doubt they are average. I've used the Extreme Contacts for many years... 12 of 'em total and they are an awesome tire.

My 07 C2S has Michelin PS2s which I've been very pleased with. My friend's 06 C2S had Conti's standard and he considers them average although I have nothing to base this on other than his word.
From what I have read and the experience of other Porsche drivers, Bridgestone REO50A is the best bang for the buck. FYI, there has been some difficulty obtaining them through Tirerack because of direct to dealership sales which leads to price markup for the customer.
Unfortunately, the treadware of 911's is asymmetric and the typical ratio is 2:1 rear to front replacements, so when replacing the rears I will stick with the PS2s and when the fronts are ready to replace, switch out the whole set for REO50As.
