Does anyone really care that much about people's perceptions? One of the reasons Acura is probably ranked low is there are a lot of people who don't even know what it is. It has very little name recognition, therefore people don't rate it highly. When I got my TL I told my GF's parents it was an Acura, they were like "oh is that a Toyota?" I was like"uhh, no, its a brand name not a model name"

you have to admit..acura is way behind in advancement of their car line. No V8...no RWD.

I had a perception of Acura quality BEFORE I bought my Acura, and now, not so much... The autotragic issue really hurt Acura's image
Acura = Ford as far as quality goes from my experience (has a 94 Tbird before my CLS).

Sigh.
Where's the dead horse smilie? Tell us something we don't already know about Acura's perception.
Acura needs a lead executive who's a visionary....a Steve Jobs....someone who can take the brand back to where it was almost 20 years ago. The executive group they've got now is not connected to the fan base (us) and makes few attempts at making that connection. No connection, no enthusiasm. No enthusiasm, no evangelism. No evangelism, no chance to bring in new converts to the brand.....and this leads to lower sales. Admittedly, they're taking baby steps right now, but the CR survey is just a reminder to them of how far they have yet to go.
Sounds like Apple ten years ago.

isn't it the higher number the better/worst the score? so if that were the case buick would be the worst maker with Acura as the "top" worst maker? correct me if I'm wrong....but yea the autotragic is what's killing us.

So, does this mean the average person does not know Acura is a Luxo Honda? If Honda is so good, how can their "upscale" brand be so bad?
Long before I owned an Acura (97 3.0CL) I knew Honda made good cars and that Acura was their "better" car.
I'll put this in the take what you can use and leave the rest file (ignore it)

I just saw this article and was about to start up a new therad about it. this rating is disappointing. The people polled should drive some of the acura models and they would see that acuras offer many advanced features for a relatively low price.

I wonder where Infiniti is ranked....a lot of the time I tell people I do sales at Infiniti and they give me a blank stare. One time in class, some girl asked me why I come to class dressed up, and I told her i'm a salesman at Infiniti....she kind of just looked at me...and I said, you know, the cars? She had no idea who/what Infiniti was until I showed her a booklet the next day
IMO, Lexus is the most known of the three japanese automakers, which sucks, because i'd much rather drive any Infiniti or Acura over anything Lexus has to offer

Not a big deal, except at resale time, especially if one buys non-Acura.
I couldn't care less what other people, especially auto journalists, think about my car as long as I am happy with it.

my theory on this is its all marketing's problem.
off the top of my head, i can think of various lexus, various toyotas, honda accord, honda fit, honda element, gmc trucks, chevy malibu, chevy suv's, ford edge, various vw "deutsche" commericals, infiniti's passion campaign, nissan's shift campaign, various hummer ads, cadillac ads... ironically, those are at the top of the consumer perception list or at least in the minds of the general public... for the life of me, i can't think of ANY acura commercials. i don't ever remember seeing a tsx commercial on tv. not even regional tv. i don't ever recall seeing a tl commercial either. then again, maybe i'm not watching the right kind of tv?
my mom is a prime example. she thought i was nuts buying an used acura when i could've bought what she thought was a brand new sporty camry for the same price. i recall in the 2nd Gen tsx forum having this argument - something as simple as push-button starter adds to the PERCEPTION of luxury. we all know push-button starter does NOT define luxury. but to the lay person, it does. why? marketing does a good job of selling the whole "race engineered" design philosophies such as push-button starter and people buy into that IDEA.
once my mom rode in my tsx, however, her perception changed. she likes the car - the interior, the appointments, the ergo, the heated front seats, etc. the ride is a bit rough for her tastes but she understands because its a sports sedan.
acura needs to spend some serious bucks marketing their cars. they can learn from infiniti's marketing department ("passion" campaign) when trying to create perception, both in their print and tv ads.

my 01 CLS was the worst car i have ever owned in terms of quality.
but it was the most bang for my buck, which i have realized a few years later that it is not a good thing sometimes if you are in the "Luxury" segment.
When you bought an Acura for the "Value", then dont complain how Acura cant compete with lexus and bmw.
after my CL-S i am never buying a japanese car that is not made in japan.

looks like the perception is correct. Just take a look at the posts here - most are bashing Acura. This my second TL, my first was an 01. i probably won't buy another Acura.

Um Audi second to last I call BS, and toyota none of the new toyotas actually look good. I would much rather have an accord than a camry. Ford third wtf, unless they include Lincoln with Ford. Ford has nothing going for them. I'm going to say the people who were surveyed are idiots.
