Seattle Cl-S said nothing wrong and wasnt trying to bash the M5. I think the OP just took it too personally for some reason.

I have driven both and feel that I am qualified to say that the M5 is a true sports car, while the CTS-V is a CTS with more hp. It's the same as trying to compare a 911 turbo to a z06. Yes, the z06 is faster, but the turbo does what it does in timeless european style and is balanced and refined. Dont even get me started on resell value, as the M5 is an instant classic and the CTS is GM's latest attempt to revive Cadillac. Long story short the M5 is an easy choice over a CTS-V in my mind, no comparison.

BTW, it was not me that brought up this whole CTS-V mumbo jumbo.
While I do think the CTS-V is comparable, let's agree on one thing: A proper gentleman wouldn't have called another car enthusiast's ride a POS Cadillac. That was not necessary. They each have their reason of being. Let's keep it on topic. If you have any more questions about your car, do not hesitate to ask here. P

I apologize for coming across as a prick. As you can imagine I am pretty thrilled to be joining the ///M club and am at times a little over enthusiastic about my love of BMW's. I sell cars for a living and know that everyone has different tastes and preferences. If I didnt firmly believe that the M5 was the ultmate sports sedan on the market I could not have justified spending so much money on it. Its not arrogance its misguided passion.

Truth be told, my favorite car to drive is a POS Chevy called a Z06.

Schedule for tomorrow (my day off):

1000am: Wake Up
1130am: Go to the bank to close/pickup the M5
1200pm: Take M5 to dealership to get it detailed by my dude
1230pm: Purchase 4yr/48kmile Bumper-Bumper Warranty
0100pm: Drive like a bat out of hell to my friends house (Black 1988 M5 (e28)owner)
0200pm: Photo Shoot w/ his car
0400pm: Drive around aimlessly
0600pm: Fill with gas
0615pm: Go home and shower
0630pm: Post pictures on Acurazine (for you guys)
0700pm: Go out to eat
0800pm-1000pm: Drive around aimlessly, maybe use the valet at a club downtown (Solas)
0100am: Drive home
0145am: Pass out in front seat
0200am-0900am: Dream about doing it again

you just made yourself okay in my book

better than some people who insist on continuing to argue their point and instigate the masses, despite how amusing it is.

Just so you know, sportscars have 2 doors. The M5 is a very powerful executive sport sedan. It is not and never will be a sports car.

Sedans are cars. So if its a Sport Sedan then its a Sport Car

Theres no rule that a sports car has to be two doors.

It's a really nice car you bought, but realize that you haven't been inducted into some elite club. You bought a car. Metal, plastic and rubber. So enjoy the car and be yourself. Don't be a BMW guy or an //M guy because that's gay and it makes people not want to let me in front of them when I change lanes.

This sports car definition topic has been beaten to death on car forums since the birth of the internet. Despite what some will tell you, the definition is subjective. I take it to mean any car that is used for enjoyment or sport (racing etc) rather than just transportation. High powered for example in 1985 is different than what high powered is now.

If you love driving whatever you drive, either four or two door, it's all that matters really.

In the end this is true but if you're driving a 500hp Audi A6 avant that could somehow pull 1.1 G's in a corner, that doesn't make it a sports car. It's an incredibly powerful and good handling station wagon.

I don't believe BMW themselves ever refers to the M5 as a sports car. They may say that it handles like a sports car but they know what they built and why they built it. It's a "sports sedan" (and a very nice one at that) not a "sports car", there is a difference. On the BMW USA site, they jokingly refer to it as a race car for 5.

My CL S 6mt is fast and handles very well, but I know that it's not a sports car, it's a sport coupe.

IMHO the term sports car should be used to describe vehicles that are built with a focus on performance and handling in comparison to average commuter vehicles that are built with a primary focus on fuel economy an comfort.

Now the real question...is the Miata a sports car? They sure do race the hell out of them, but...:theghey:

Just because it's sporty doesn't mean its a sports car. The M3 coupe is a "sport coupe".

Just because you put a giant friggin F1 style wing on your civic hatch back doesn't mean it's a race car.

No offense, but I think the Miata qualifies more as a sports car than you M5 (not bashing your M5 here, don't take it the wrong way, the M5 is a hell of a lot more car than a miata). It's a light weight small 2 seater with very little practicality. It's only real purpose is top down fun on a windy road.

You can look at the giant AMG benzes that are ridiculously powerful have 2 seats and 2 doors. These aren't sports cars. Yeah, they have a shit load of power (some are pushing 700 lbs/ft of torque) but they need it because the car is incredibly heavy and the handling just isn't there. Sports cars need to be nimble and agile, not just fast.

Just because it's "sporty" doesn't mean it's a sports car.

If you know a good bodyshop, they can take off the wood interior trim, sand it and paint it a few times to any color you want. That's what I did with my 330 and it looks much better than the wood. They had to take off the door panels as well and they painted the trim on the steering wheel too when I ordered the M3 steering wheel.

The brushed aluminum trim costs close to $1K new. I'm not sure about your M5...

Now that I look at your doors again, it doesn't even look like they would need to take off the door panels since you don't have wooden handles like I did.

OOOOOk, so the guy I am buying the car from had to put it off until tomorrow around 3 or 4 and possibly Friday. I am losing my mind in anticipation. This shit is ridiculous. I was thinking he was trying to sell it out from under me to a higher bidder, but he is a good guy and he assured me that he was just busy at work. Its like waiting up all night for santa clause and having your parents tell you the next day that christmas isnt until tomorrow.

I picked up the car today at 3:55pm. Oh what a glorious day. Driving back to work I was surprised how slow people drive. I was passing people at 110mph, sipping on my diet coke. The car feels so planted you would think it had roots. When I had my cl-s, 90 would feel fast. The m5 has yet to tell me to slow down. Now i am sure there are several state troopers that would be happy to remind me of the speed limit, but I have yet to meet them. The car has endless acceleration, from every RPM. You can easily start the car from 3rd gear, it may take you a little longer to get up to speed, but there is plenty of power. I do apologize for the crappy pics, but it is night time and I dont feel like taking better ones right now. I am getting my car detailed hardcore on saturday and will do the photoshoot with my friends e28 m5 on sunday (weather permitting). You can barely make out the shape of the car in these pics, but it is there. It still hasnt hit me that i own an M5 yet, im still waiting for the shock to wear off.

err we cant see shit. But congrats again, I really am happy for you, glad that you like it. However driving 110 while sipping coke isnt good and you dont want to lose your license after getting your new M. Be considerate and careful. Oh and take better pics when you can.

2000-2003 M5 = E39 (my body style)
2006-Present = E60 (new body style)
2001-2006 M3 = E46 (last M3 body style)
