Yea. In my case, my wheels stick out 30mm in the front and 40mm in the rear compared to stock. Thankfully the stock wheels are nowhere near aggressive so there is tons of room in wheel wells, so the wheels dont stick out. The sound of the rocks hitting the car still make me cringe. I do ~10mph once I get into my development.

I've got the clear bra in most of the high wear areas. I forgot to have it applied to one area, just behind the doors, and Ive already got a few chips there

Im loving these tires. I drove down to Charlotte yesterday for the end of C&C and a little meet with the Charlotte guys. The car handled it well, I wish I could say the same for myself. I can't drive on little sleep like I used to. But I had fun, and it was nice being down there again.

In case you're wondering, I did not wash the car

I've got about 100 more pics to go through but I have to get ready for work, so those will have to wait.

I like the large medium pictures on Flickr.
I don't like how blown up and in slightly worse quality when you go too big.

I have no idea why those pics look so small. I used the 800x600 link I always use

But, in other news, back to the dealer she goes! Not because of the coolant issue. Or maybe it is, don't know if its related.

Heading to work yesterday, the car felt a bit more sluggish then usual. It sat in the lot at work for 9 hours, and halfway through the drive home I started hearing a ticking noise. I had been driving at a constant 65mph for about 13 miles when it started. It sounded like a baseball card that was stuck in the spokes of a bicycle wheel.

I got off the highway near the house and came to a stop a traffic light. Thats where I could hear knocking, ticking, and a few misfires. No CELs though. The noisy HPFP was prevalent as well.

Re: the HPFP - So many people have had issues with it chirping that it is commonly referred to as "The Crickets". For the first 22k miles I never had them. I considered myself lucky even though the noise never really seemed to cause an issue in these cars. Then around 22.5k miles it started to chirp. It was a slower chirp, you could distinctly make out each individual chirp. It did so for about 2-300 miles, then went away. It was gone until last night. As you can hear in the video, the chirping is fast paced, much faster then what it was like 4k+ miles ago. Im not even 100% the chirping is from the HPFP, it may be something else in the valve train.

Im bringing it to the shop today. I left a voicemail with the SA that is familiar with my car explaining that it needs to be looked at today and it needs to be done by 1pm at the latest since I have to be at work by 2pm. Either that, or they will be giving me a rental. I can't miss any time on a job I just started.

Wow Morgan that sounds terrible unless a diesel FR-S is what you wanted in the first place. I hope they stop giving your the run around and take some action now.

Sounds like valve train, like I said that engine needs to go back to engineering for a complete tear down and analysis. 1st year for this engine they "SHOULD" want "ANY" issues returned to see what is going on and make any needede changes to improve reliability, but of course that is just me. They "SHOULD" have been replacing the long block back when ou had the coolant issue, now nothing lees than a new engine and free loaner is acceptable. WTF this is toyota, they have money built into these cars for this type of issue for the first couple years.

Spoke with the Service Manager today. They have opened another Techline with Toyota. They were going to have more info tonight for me but they didn't call me back. Ill be picking up a rental in the morning. Couldve gotten one today but my work schedule wouldn't allow that. Thankfully my brother is letting me borrow his car.

Why must this shit happen when I don't have the CL in my possession? Then again, if I did have it back, it would've been sold, so....

Hopefully Ill have an update tomorrow night.

I'd be as far up the food chain at Toyota NA as I could get with great and furious anger.

In due time. I've got a long term plan for this. See below.

Thanks man, but I don't think its minor.

Ok, lets recap.
  • Two months after I got the car I noticed the coolant was low (i.e. - overflow bottle was empty). I filled it up and thought it just wasn't burped fully at the factory.
  • Noticed it was low again in December. Topped it off. Didn't drive the car much in January due to snow.
  • Saw that it was empty again at the beginning of May. Filled it.
  • Two days and 200 miles later the car was strapped to the dyno. Thats when I noticed the smoke and the coolant was low once again.
  • Brought it to the dealer on 5/8. They kept the car until 5/11. They said compression held steady over 5 hours when cold, but dropped 4 psi over 15 minutes when hot across all cylinders. Topped off fluids and told me to monitor it.
  • A week later it was low, brought it back to them and they said it was fine.
  • June 2nd, car started knocking, ticking, misfiring, and had no power. I brought it to the dealer the following day.
  • June 5th, the dealer said that there is a TSB for the high pressure fuel pump and they are going to replace it (its the source of the high pitched cricket noise in my video, which started on 6/2). I told them the HPFP won't do a damn thing, but go for it since its under warranty. That same day I picked up a Prius.
  • BTW, fuck Prius'
  • June 6th, dealer calls to say, get this, the HPFP didn't fix it. SHOCKING! Toyota is sending a field engineer to check out the car on Tuesday.

VA Lemon Law favors the consumer, and the dealer has 30 days to fix the car. I will have to notify Toyota that I plan on filing for a lemon during that time, otherwise they have another 15 days to fix it. Right now they have 25. Around day 15, if it comes to that, I will send them a written notice of what plan I will be taking. VA Lemon Law also states that I can a) get a replacement car or b) get a refund for the purchase price less a reasonable amount for the use of the vehicle. I'd get screwed with option B since I've got 27k miles on the car, but I would be able to sue for damages if I do go that route. As I said before, I love the car and I'd much rather get another TBH. Im trying not to think about returning the car to stock. That would suck, but I wouldn't trust the dealer to do it for me.

But yea, Im still driving this piece of shit:

A few things I've noticed over the past few days:
  • I hate CVTs
  • Road raging in a Prius doesn't have the same effect.
  • Ive never been more bored driving a car in my life. And I've driven HHRs.
  • Surprisingly, they actually can spin their tires
  • Power mode is the only mode that makes the car even remotely drivable. Why is it not the default mode?
  • I felt dumb when the lady at the rental car place had to teach me how to start it and change gears.
  • The side view mirrors are tiny as hell. I feel like there is a massive blindspot.
  • If someone in the next lane sneezes in my direction, the car feels likes its going to blow off the road.

This car is so boring, I've started to play a game to and from work (since I don't want to be seen driving it anywhere else). Instead of trying to hypermile, like I did the first day (averaged 58mpg), I have since decided to try to get the worst possible mileage. Im down to 43.8mpg now. Im aiming for 30s.

Excellent review of the Prius. You forgot to say that it's faster and better looking than your FR-S

I wish you the best with dealing with this engine crap. I'm not pleased with the situation and it's not even my car.

Im not even trying to be funny, but the Prius definitely has more grunt then the FR-S at lower speeds. Electric motors are good for one thing at least.

Then again, thats compared to a car with a bad engine

Nice Prius...now your avatar makes total sense :ghey:. Good luck with getting it into the 30's LOL.

Looking forward to hearing the outcome of the saga. Hopefully they can fix your car, as either of the other options seems like a PITA.

Yea, it would be a pain in the ass. I need to talk to my friend that used to have a white BRZ. He had it for ~2 months and it was a lemon. I want to find out how difficult it was.

Im curious as to what they'd value my car at. Trade in is $21,360 and private is $22,600 according to KBB, which is actually pretty impressive given the amount of miles I have on it. The new price of the car has risen though. It was $24,970 and now its $25,255. Not a huge difference, but thats still the 2013 model pricing.

Scion did something similar with the first gen Tc that really helped out resale values for early adopters. I think the following model year was around $1k more then the previous year. I was kind of hoping they'd do the same with the FR-S.

If I do end up getting a new one, I may try to get the anniversary edition since it has the headlights I want, along with the dual climate control. That cheesy light up badging would be gone in a heartbeat though. I don't want to pay the additional $3k though. Then again, I don't know if I want a silver car...

But Im putting the cart before the horse.

So you aren't the first one close to lemon with this car...
Did he have same kind of issue also?

With private value you mentioned, option B is still not a bad route for 27k miles

If they bumped the price up the first year, I bet it's going to continue on

You brought that FRS beyond a limited version. So much soul in that car.
Since you going to do same thing to the new one, I would say pay 3k and get the limited version.
Do it once do it right. Mod it and become the top on the list

They went crazy with lighting everywhere but replacing the badge would be enough haha

Color... meh I dunno, not a fan of silver on that car but it has some kind of bluish in it. Is it a color like the M3 has?
That they call it the best color for a car ever...

Are you happy with Asphalt?
Any love for white or black?
Will not ask blue...that's Subaru

This thread now gives me a sad. IMO, I wouldn't go for the anniversary addition if it comes to that. Not a fan of anything done with that car except giving it the good headlights!

That sucks for your buddy. Has he thought about going the lemon law route?

Did he have same kind of issue also?
I think he brought the car in for the cricket noises from the HPFP. I need to contact him though and figure out how he went about it, how difficult it was, and if he was in contact with a lawyer.

I refuse to take a loss on my car due to a manufacturers defect.

I appreciate the kind words. But, similar to my previous comment, I refuse to pay out of pocket due to a manufacturers defect.

I love Asphalt. It shines beautifully in the sun, even when its dirty.

No and no. Too popular. My second choice would be Hot Lava followed by Ultramarine. Asphalt still looks more elegant though IMO.

The more I think about it, the more I realize that I really hate silver cars, so I dont think I'd go with the anniversary edition. I would love to have dual zone climate control, push button start, the JDM head lights, and the touch screen radio. For some reason I really find the silver seat belts to be pretty cool.

I dont know why, but I love that.

A latent sub-conscious manifestation of OCD, in a good way.

I like them to.

Sorry to hear about the car, may the outcome be to your satisfaction.

Oh, I forgot to post a pic of the new tires on the wheels. Probably because I didnt take one. But thankfully Eric did.

More flushiness due to the tires, but now it looks like the car should go 1/8-1/4" lower. I probably won't touch it though.
