Cheap and Economical or Luxurious and expensive
So I'll be moving soon and I'm going to have about a 100 mile a day commute. This, and the news that I have another new child on the way has made me decide that the GTO will probably not be the best car choice.
So, I'll be getting a daily driver that will also serve as a commuter car. The question is, do I go with something cheap economical or something with more luxury- since I will be spending more time in it.
Anyways, I am not sure which way to go right now but I don't want to spend more than 30K or so. If I go luxury, I will need something used. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Honda Accord is what I would do. You will be putting on the miles and that one car that you can resell with high miles and get something out of it. Even though they are everywhere out there, they have Navi and a smooth ride, also gas is going to get ridiculous this year. It should hover around $3.20 a gallon if no hurricans, if weather get bad or something happens over in the middle east, gas may rise to around $4.00

Accord EX-L (4cyl), or Camry 4cyl with leather. Not too expensive (especially the Accord is less money than the Camry), and comes with most other things you need so you won't have to buy used. You can get a brand new one for a great price, and they've got enough luxury and are good enough on gas for the best of both worlds.
Great on gas and enough luxury to keep you happy.

Lincoln Navigator or GMC Denali, or maybe a Ram 4x4 4-door. These are generally what my fellow commuters drive everyday. You know, big, take up a lot of the road, only one person in it.
Seriously though. How about an $11K car that gets good mileage and you can rack the miles up in and not car. You can then keep the Goat (if you have the space). Practically band new Saturn Ion? Used Civic?
If this is a bad idea I'd go with a TSX or Accord.

are you going to sell the GTO?
I reaalllly hope not.
I would consider a new civic 4-door....the Si is coming out. I don't usually consider cars like that but it looks pretty cool.
---this is provided you are keeping the GTO
If you are selling the car then I would go Luxurious and Expensive. i will have to dwell on what, though....

People....think about dealing with two cars seats...cars like a tsx, civic, IS and 3 series can do it...but its a PITA.

ugh... this is a difficult decision.
Yes, I will be getting rid of the GTO for financial reasons. I don't like having two car payments.
I think Civic/TSX size will be too small. I'm 6'4" and that leaves little room behind me for a car seat and other misc crap.
Sarlacc, you had to bust out the minivan card huh? I just don't know if I could do that. Maybe if it had sport suspension and a supercharger!
The drive is about half city and half highway. 1 lane highway at that so there can be traffic.

Nothing wrong with the pimp Ody Touring with Navi. I love them. i would rock one.
You want to spend more....go for a Lexus RX400h with Navi...I love my parents'...very quick for a SUV...sport suspension, and SMOOTH CVT tranny.

One more idea...a 2002-2004 Infiniti Q45. Between the RL, LS, and Q, I'm sure you could find a decent low-mile luxo barge that's priced decently...especially in the Houston area. I know Dallas is swarming with them...just check out Ebay.

my wife rocks my 94 Accord back and forth to work each day which is 125 miles round trip.
when I was in college that same car was my go to college car. which was 80 miles round trip. did that for 5 years.
now I drive my wife's 98 Contour back and forth to work which is about 40 miles round trip.
my Accord with 300k still gets 28-30 miles per gallon. only reason the wife drives it vs the Contour is due to it having a Sunroof and she really likes that

Do you guys have any experience with the Highlander Hybrid? I put an offer in on a house this weekend and the driveway is not very car friendly.

half and half? a hybrid will be fine especially on that one lane hwy.
Otherwise try a Mazda5 unless it's too weak.
07 Camry SE V6. Power and economy... well.. for that kinda power anyway.
wait and see what Honda offers for the 2007 Accord?
06 MazdaSpeed6... 276hp, turbo, AWD, 4-drs.. what more do you want?
Otherwise try the Passat TDI?
