Cheap Boost Gauge vs Expensive Boost Gauge

So, I'm looking to purchase a boost gauge for my car.. as I was looking around for some good ones, I notice there's a huge price difference on different boost gauges..

Can someone recommend me a good boost gauge for me? Which brand? Why?

Thanks in advance!

Auto Meter are high quality and there are a bazillion different styles.

Consider any bargain priced boost gauge and you will likely be looking at one manufactured in China that will have questionable accuracy. It will also be poorly made.

MS3 has a boost gauge stock through your MID, so what's the purpose of another?

The stock one only goes up to 15 psi. So, it's pretty much useless for tuning and monitoring.

I had an APEX'i EL 60mm boost gauge in my Evo and loved it. I had the black face with a blue glow, the needle was red. It was a nice contrast to the gauges in the Evo. Have you looked into any Defi setups?

Yes, Defi one is the one that I'm really interested in. The one I want is amber/red with black face which goes completely black when the ignition is off.

I was just curious why some other brands are so cheap, that's all.

How about Prosport?

Driving data can be stored and can be replayed up to 3 minutes.
This is from Defi BF Amber 60mm Boost Gauge description. I guess I have to get something like this for tuning right??

Pretty much all mechanical gauges will be good enough quality for a street setup. Just buy a reputable brand and you won't have any trouble.

A standard boost gauge is good enough for tuning. Defi systems need a control system that all the gauges then connect to, pretty much the "brain" of the system. That's what allows it to playback boost, etc.

Are there any companies that make gauges specifically for your car in a way that matches the interior?

I ask because for my Avant, I have a vent mounted gauge that is not only functional, but matches up nicely with the dash because of the lighting and color scheme they chose:

(it's a crappy pic, but you get the idea)

Just wanted to throw the idea out there...

I use autometer gauges. Stay away from the cheap brands as they may not be accurate and I don't think you would want to chance overboosting your car would you?

I run AEM gauges in my TSX (UEGO wideband + boost). They're unique in that they have both a digital and a simulated analog readout.

They're a bit pricey, but from what I've seen these are the gauges of choice in alot of high-end applications (HPF M3 turbo kits come with them as standard).

That, I didn't know.

Anyway so long as you stay with a reputable brand you should be fine. Personally I'd ask the MS3 guys what they're using to try to see their gauge setups and what not. Maybe you might like their mounting points or their gauge might have better colors or what have you.
