Car under 18k

Hey maybe some of you guys can gimme some advice here. I'm looking for a car for under 18k and at first I was gonna get a 2g TL but after seeing all the problems with the tranny I decided not too. So then I was looking at like a 2000 RL and then a 2000 A4 or A6 and am having a real hard time deciding which one to get. I was wondering which you guys though would be the best one to get, I need to get which ever will be like the most reliable cause I'm not loaded like some of you guys. I'm also always welcome to new suggestions too, just trying to find a good car to get and was never partial to getting cars that everyone and their brother has (civics, camrys, impalas). Thanks for any helps you guys can give, it's greatly appreciated.

I see your 18...consider insurance and maintenance charges before you buy something that everyone and their brother doesnt have.

id stay away from anything german. and go for cars still under warranty. the 2nd TL sounds the best right now. an rsx would be nice too, but it quite popular, as well as the A4. a new scion sounds like a safe bet, obv.

do not get the audi unless you are prepared to take on the high cost in maitenance/repair bills(or anything german for that matter). my last car was a german car and i had to spend so much repairing it. if you are looking at something sporty consider maybe an is300. lexus/toyotas are known for the quality and reliability so you should be safe there in terms of repair costs. i think the es330 is also within your price range but it's too much sedan and not enough sport for an 18 year old.

Just helped my girlfriend get a Infiniti 2001 I30t for $15,000 and it's a GREAT car.
If you look hard enough, you could find a 2002 I35. True, they are a family sedan, and the words "pimp ride" don't exactly come to mind. But, they are great, reliable cars that are perfectly able to get up and go when you punch the gas...

thanks for advice guys, yeah sporty isn't a must, I don't mind a sedan. So you guys are saying that the repairs on the Audi are pretty expensive, well that sucks cause I love them cars but it wouldn't be worth it then. I'll take a look at some Lexus and infinitis. My pops wants me to try and get like a new Hyundi so I will have the full warranty and such, I have heard that they've come along way in quality, what do you guys think bout them. I know they aren't the coolest cars but if it will save me that much money in the long run then I'll just wait a few years till I'm rich and get the audi lol.

Nissan Altima 2.5s
Acura RSX
Honda Accord LX
Scion TC
Pontiac G6

To pick from your list, in terms of what I look for in a car and reliability wise, I would go with the RL

I really cant recommend buying a used Audi. For that matter, I really cant recommend buying a new Audi.

Have you considered a 2002-03 Nissan Maxima ?

ok if sporty isn't a requirement then maybe a 2002 maxima. i think it's a solid car for the money. as far as hyundai is concerned they have come along way and their cars are becoming much more reliable. i would still take a scion tc brand new over a hyudai. take a walk over to the toyota dealer and check out some new scions.

True. The VQ35DE does require premium.

So Accord and TL-S/CL-S trannys are troublesome but the TL-P tranny is OK??

F23A4, whose 99 Accord had its tranny replaced at 37k.

Used Camry also. Lots of cars for under $18k. I'd get quotes on insurance and stick to the reliable stuff.

w/Doom regarding the Camry. Nothing much can touch it when it comes to reliability.
