Car Sitting For 3 Years. Rsx

My buddy left for HK 3 years ago and now wants me to sell his RSX. He had it when it was new and drove it for 1 year then left. So how dangerious will it be for me to drive it back to my place?

He said it doesnt need anything because he did a 300 dollar maintance before he left.

But I think the battery is dead and the tires are gone? I will find out sunday. PLZ
Opinions???

Drain the gas first, it should be like water now, and then add fresh gas.

Like you said its only been drivin for like 1 year, so the engine and everything should be in excellent condition, and gas cant chemically turn into water it will always be gas. Plus its like a new car its only drivin for a year.

If you can start an antique car after a couple of years, then you can start a new car up easily.

Yeah, gas won't turn into water...but it does go bad. You will probably want to get rid of the gas that's in there before you run too much of it through the engine.

just syphon as much out as possible, then throw in some 91 octane, some fuel system cleaners, etc.

The least would be new gas, but I think a lot of newer cars have anti syphon systems. Think he would have ran the car out of gas if he knew he was leaving and put $300 into the car for long term sitting, so it might be done already.

Your friend left the car sitting for 3 years? I'm pretty sure the tires are gone ... check for cracks in the sidewall ... your friend should have put it on axle stands and deflated the tires if he knew he'd be gone that long.

How far is the garage to a shop? You might as well drain fuel / change tires.

PS Maybe the girl's been driving it? Car batteries do not keep their charge after 3 yrs still plugged into the electrical system...

Same could be said about the other fluids ... antifreeze, brakes, even tranny Three years is a long time for stuff like that to sit and not warm up, etc ...

All fluids, tires and hoses MUST be inspected and most likely replaced.

I would change all fluids, flush what fluids can be flushed, change battery, change tires, When doing a fresh tank of gas, get some top end cleaner. And change every piece of rubber under the hood. Change belts , hoses ect. I'd even go so far as changing the timing belt. I just would risk it.
