You are asking on a Acura forum....Obviously all of us have chose to go with the TL. Anyways, the tranny recall is only on SOME of the 03 tl's, not all.
If you ask me, the tl is a dressed up accord, honda makes acuras. I have never been a fan of Nissans so I cant really help you there....
However, the TL that you are looking at is the sport package, which to me is a complete beast. I personally love the way that the s drives over any other car on the road. The tl is a very solid car, if have had no issues in 77,xxx miles with the exception os the torque converter that was replaced under warranty.

I'd go with the G35, coupe or sedan it doesn't matter. G35's are strong and well built compared to Nissan and Acura/Honda. 2nd pick would be the Maxima, 3rd would be the TL-S, and 4th would be the Accord. If I could go back in time and took the time to look around for more better cars, I would've chosen the G35 but most were not in my price range ($9000-) But, as a first time car, who would complain much about a TL-S? (:

My bad.. I meant to compare Infiniti/Nissan to Acura/Honda. Infiniti is better than Nissan as Acura is better than Honda, Lexus > Toyota, and so on.. that's what I meant. But then again, it all depends on your budget.
first off do you want a fwd or a rwd?
manual or automatic?
sedan or coupe?
cause they are all good vehicles it depends what you want cause 3 of them are front wheel and one rear wheel that you can get in all wheel.

We're not as biased as the forum would make us seem. We all have owned an Acura at one point or another, so all we're going to do is tell you what we think based on our experiences with each car. Obviously, you'll hear more about the TL. But I think Car Talk has a lot of car enthusiasts, not Acura gomers.

I would get the Maxima.
I used to be a Nissan fan from back in the day I bought the then new 1989 240SX and then I bought my 2003 Pathfinder... I think they suck now. They are pretty good for 5 years or so and then everything will fall apart. Engine gaskets, oil cooler line, AC line, ball joints, complete exhaust, blower resistor... I'm forgetting stuff now because I plunked $21k cash to buy it out at the end of lease with an extended warranty (not much was actually covered) and I want to forget one of my worst car decisions. I talked to the mechanics and they said all these are well known issues with Nissans. My inlaws had Maxima's and G35's with lots of these issues as well.
So, I'd recommend the Accord for a used car.

You are very wrong.
Sigh, just another worthless thread full of dumbasses sent over here from the TL forum because they don't what to do with them over there.
Your experience with your Pathfinder doesn't necessarily contradict my experience. My 89 240SX was trouble free except for a recall for scratching of the power windows. Not bad for a 1st year model.
And of specific note, my Pathinder is from the Ghosn years, where I suspect cost-cutting also cut into engineering quality. Pre-Ghosn Nissan may not have been profitable, but the quality was better.
Maxima or G, whichever is in better condition and has lower miles. Plus you have to decide if you need fwd or rwd. The accord is awesome, i'm just not a gan of the styling from that gen. As far as the TL, stay away. The 99-03 TL's are notorious for tranny failure. For every 1 that doesnt fail, there are 10 that do.
They all have issues, so pick your poison.
03 TL-S is almost guaranteed to have transmission problems.
05 AV6 might be OK, but the torque converters haven't been too reliable either.
I'm not familiar with the 04 Maxima. My former neighbor had one and it didn't give him any problems. As for the G35, they seem to be OK. My friend works on them out of his garage and he hasn't seen any major issues with them. The 03-04 models do wear out brakes very quickly though.

Same platform (FM) and same drivetrain (VQ35) Sure they're different in purpose, and exterior and interior styling, and the G is a bit bigger but otherwise...
I was looking at a 5.5 gen Maxima when I was looking for my car, and I liked the maxima a lot. I chose to go with the Accord because it felt a lot better to me. I thought interior quality was top-notch (aside from the rattles) and was fun to drive for a four-cylinder family sedan. And keep in mind that the 05 V6 auto Accords had some problems as well, though not as much. I'd go with the G35 or Maxima, however it depends on the specific car you're looking for, i.e. year, transmission, coupeor sedan, etc. We could be of much more help then
