Car App that tracks MPG, Cost, and Schedules Maintenance
I use Google Chrome as my web browser and about a month ago I started using the "Cargly" Car App.
As Acura owners we can now finally see how much money we are burning (and in which category; gas, maintenance, parts) in a easy to read pie chart! hahah.
The App can be found here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/home

This seems like a great idea for cars that don't have the trip computer. However, I can't see myself using this on a regular basis though...
I guess the app gives you a more in-depth detail of how one uses his or her vehicle.

I've been using this app b/c I noticed that my TL's trip computer is usually off 2 or 3 MPG when compared to pen/paper.

I use the aCar app on my android phone. To me its very handy as I can enter the total price, volume of gas, and odometer reading as soon as I'm done pumping. It will then tell you your miles per gallon for that trip based on your last fill.
It will also track all your other maintenance costs if you enter them in.
You can do it for multiple vehicles.

I vote for aCar or FuelLog - Car management
Below is a example of FuelLog
both are free android apps that can be downloaded on your phone. I've been using FuelLog for the past 8 months, and I notice that the MPG that the APP gives me is usually 1-2 MPG less than what the MID tells me.
For example, between every full tank of gas from Full to empty, my MID will tell me i AVG 24MPG on the tank. When I fill out the information (how many miles I current have on my odometer, price of gas, how many gallons I just pumped) FuelLog would display I averaged either 22.xxMPG - 23.49MPG while my MID would say 24. I know it will round up, but my app clearly says its UNDER 23.49 but my MID still says its 24?

I've been using acar for a few months and it does everything I need. I also keep a excel spreadsheet and have since I had my SVT Contour prior to the TL. It's and OCD thing, but once it is setup, it's easy to maintain.

Than how come for the past 6 months when I fill use the app to do the pen and paper method of tracking last fill up miles to current fill up miles, my app always reads 1-3MPG off of what the actual mid says? The mid would say I drove on my tank for 300-330 Miles and average about 24 sometimes 25mpg. When I fill up and use the app it tells me my average for the current tank is 22 or 23.
It's never been the same number as the MID display, and i've been using the app for over half a year now.
People say all the time how it calculates every possible variable imaginable to calculate the "AVG MPG" value, but how come it doesn't add up with the simple pen and paper method?

For iOS:
Free: Gas Cubby
Paid ($2.99): Car Minder
Note: I haven't used either app, but those seemed the best reviewed.

Nice to know that FuelLog is still out there doing its thing...I consistently used an earlier version in my old Palm Pilot. Was looking for it for Blackberry, but had to settle for "Fuel Economy Calculator" (which is a decent app in its own right).

I use VehiCal, but it doesn't generate all those fancy graphs and shiz, but is exportable via a CSV or html file. Plus, it has years of data that I'd hate to lose or re-input by hand. Wonder if any of these apps allow you to inport data via the files I can export? Anyone know off the top?

I've been using GasCubby for iOS for a number of years now. Let's you track mileage and service history. Also gives you service reminders, you can also input custom reminders. The developers of the app haven't updated it in a while which is disheartening. It'd be nice if it had some newer features and speed enhancements.

Set up the car, click the Log Book tab, then Import & Export.

Yes... this is what I do.
Pull up to gas station, park the car, flip through my mid and go to my Trip Computer than look at the display and than reset it.
After I reset it and everything goes back to 0 value, I press the gas lid release button, get out of my car and fill it up.
That's what I do ALL THE TIME, so the value that my MID is showing me when I pull up to a gas station to fill up is the average for that gas tank since the last time I pumped gas.
Try out the pen and paper method, or try out one of these Apps for yourself and you will see what we are talking about.
It's easy to sit there and brag about how technologically advance the MID display is and how accurate it is, but when you actually do the simple math yourself you will be surprised that the numbers don't add up.

I just discovered Fuelly. Works great for me. I'll have to look at the other apps and sites, though.

Drifting
1. write miles and MID mpg and mph values on gas receipt.
2. keep the receipts in console and perform a mass data entry into www.fueleconomy.gov where there is enough to do it. In comments field, enter the MID MPH/MPG values. (This thread made me think I haven't done this in a while.)
3. marvel at how accurate the MID really is
I just entered my data into www.fueleconomy.gov- 7 months worth or 19 fillups. This took me about 22 minutes to do and now other people can see real world MPG.
I continue to be amazed at the accuracy of the MID- it was dead on +/- .5 (round off error) MPG in 18 entries and off .9 on just one entry. That's good enough for me to trust it. I have 5.5 years of data that supports this performance too.
