Can I Get Some Help. My father's Camry won't start..?

It's a 2000 Camry w/ about 105,000 miles on it, but it usually runs very strong. This is completely out of the blue, the car wasn't showing any signs that it was about to die before this.

When I turn the ignition, all I hear is a very fast clicking noise. Almost like a woodpecker pecking on a plastic tree.

Is it in "Park"?
Is there a woodpecker trapped under the hood attacking your alternator?

It could be the starter. But, before you buy a new one, check the negative battery cable for corrosion or grease build-up specially the end that bolts to either the car body or the engine block. Unbolt and thoroughly clean both mounting areas. This will only work if the battery is still good. Hope this helps.

If yuo're hearing the ticking. It's the battery. The battery could've been on it's last limb and you just didn't know it. Give it a jump and see if it helps. If it does, it's the battery. Change battery and you'll be fine. Get an Optima battery for optimum crisp starts.
If it was the starter, you wuoldnt' hear anything. It would just be silent when you turned the key.
