To buy or not to buy..

Hey, guys. I'm planning to trade in my CLS next month and looking to buy one new in this summer. (after the long trip) I've always loved how Infiniti FX looks like and feels like when driving, but here's my question. Since FX came out long ago (03 or 04 I guess?) do you guys hear any rumor or think that new gen of FX come out soon? If so, I'm definitely waiting for it. I don't want to buy new one now see new gens rolloing on the street. I feel that somehow FX is kinda old now even I still like it. I'm also thinking about getting IS 350 because it's newly released (eventhough I prefer bigger room).
So what do you guys think? getting FX this summer or wait for a bit?

From what I understand, my assumption would be that the earliest they give it a major make-over would be for the 2008 model year being available late 2007....that is at the earliest.
I love the FX as well and have been looking at getting one myself...
I say go for it.

It just got a minor facelift for 2006, so don't expect anything major to change until 2008MY at the earliest.

Every indication suggests that bgsm1th is right - the re-done FX will probably be available in late '07 as an '08 model. Get an '06 now on a 2-3 year lease and you'll be good to go. Incidentally it's a great car, more like a lifted wagon than an SUV but very fun to drive and decent utility.

You can get really good lease rates on FX's. I remember not to long ago Infiniti was offering the FX45 with tech package for $569/month for 36 months with zero down.

Wow that's an almost stupid good deal. You sure it was the FX45? Man I wish they had offers like that in Canuckistan.

FX is a high residual vehicle. That lease deal is possible. Subtract $50 and it can be a payment for an FX35 which I recommend due to gas mileage.

Thanks guys for the input! Is it better to lease it for 2 years or just buy it and sell it after 2 years?

I don't think there is really a straightfoward answer to that. It kind of depends on what's best for you. If you're positive you're only going to keep it for a couple years and aren't going to put a million miles on it *odds* are you're better off leasing it. But there's a case for buying too.

A lease has a guarantied off-lease price (or residual price). If market changes nobody would be able to change that off-lease value. It might be higher or lower that the resale value at that point.

I would consider leasing.

however if he drives the car a lot it's stupid to lease it because he has to pay (i think) like a dime per mile.I drive 20-30 k a year each of my rides (I have 3 cars) so I'd be paying thousand. In my situation, not worth it. because I'm not gonna pay car payment+fuel+oil changes/upkeep AND MILEAGE CHARGES.

yes I know my cars are worth less because i put so many miles on them but i don't think a dime a mile is fair hit.

^^ if you are gonna put 20~30k miles per year, you might as well BUY a car, like a Toyota Corolla for instance, cheap, reliable and depreciation due to mileage won't be that bad (considering the price-to-depreciation ratio).

It is not too common to buy an expensive car and drive it 30k miles a year. That is why my answer favors leasing, assuming he wont drive more than 12k miles a year.
