The Acura road test team was outside Atlanta, GA. In November and they gave me the full tour of the 2017 NSX, let me try it out and demonstrated all the differences between my 1995 NSX and the new model. Assume experience, but I like my targa top, so I am waiting for the convertible model, they said was in the works for 2018. If you know Acura like I do, it will probably be 2020 before they release a convertible model, hopefully a retractable hard-top!!!
I built this instead. This would be my choice in that segment.
Probably a McLaren 570S for me, though the configurator doesn't have pricing, so I have no idea what my build would actually cost. I believe they start around 180k.
As far as I understand, the new NSX will be built to order. With that said, I'm extremely curious who is going to shell 200K for an Acura. I think I read somewhere that Acura is anticipating 200-800 cars in the first year...... I would be shocked if they sold 200 at this price.
I dunno why anyone would bother with buying the i8. What a waste of money.
People with too much money who aren't happy with too many Porsche/Lambo/Ferraris rolling around the town. The i8 was marked up super high last year. Like 100k on top.

i think it will be the same people who shelled out $340k for a 'Lexus' (LFA)... granted there was only a 1 year run of 500... i foresee the NSX having a similar colt/collectibility following...
i mean look at how much the value of your NA1.5 has skyrocketed...

Dude... There's a reason the OG NSX is climbing in value, regardless of NA1 or NA2.
I'd be floored if the new one ever achieves such status.
Here is a short list of cars that I'd buy (and can buy right now) long before getting the NSX for ~$200k:
[edit]img snipped for brevity:
S65 AMG
911 Turbo S
V12 Vantage
Viper
McLaren 570
i8
C7 Z06
It looks like some would rather have anything....anything under 200k that's not the Acura NSX:
A 4 door large luxury barge from AMG (albeit a very very fast luxury barge)
A RR, turbo AWD german classic
A british, V12 sports tourer
The quintessential, American track monster and spine/left leg breaker
A baby McLaren supercar
A german interpretation of a hybrid sports car
A more livable/affordable version of the Viper
I guess some people just really does not like the NSX at all. Sure the wait and weight are two big gripes I hear....but for someone who can actually afford 150-200k cars.....pretty harsh to basically list out a ton of cars even before a test drive of the new NSX....
I think the NSX is pretty cool and if I had that much money at least I'd give it a test drive
Curva Red
Brown Semi Analine seats ($1500)
Standard Y wheels
Carbon brakes with red calipers ($10,600)*
Carbon Engine Cover ($3600)
Interior Carbon pack ($2900)
ELS + Nav + XM ($3300)
Total $179,700 (but I missed the $1200 floormats)
*I wouldn't bother with the carbon brakes myself, but they're a mandatory option for the time being

To your last point, I would give it a drive too.
To the other points, the NSX is designed to be a performance car that goes fast, handles well, and looks good doing it. IMO, all of the cars I posted go faster, handle better (most of them at least), and look just as good or better doing it.

FWIW I would have a very similar list to SamDoe. I would give the NSX a look, but it would have to do a lot to get a serious consideration IMO.
Only thing I would change is swapping out the i8 for an R8. That's kind of my dream car in this space. I will say that a GTR or Z06 would be tough to beat as far as performance to dollar ratios go...

They are also real and on the market today.
Yeah, at least give it a test drive.
And to add to the point of the NSX...be able to be reliable and not be in the shop many weeks of the year. Which I think partially may have caused delay...trying to do lots of internal QC and testing to make parts as reliable as possible. Since that is the Acura/Honda brand.
Not all of the cars are faster or handle better though.
S65 AMG vs a NSX 2.0 for handling....NSX will murder a huge luxury yacht as will most other sports cars already listed here.
A i8 vs a NSX for accleration...i8 is slowest of all the cars listed.
The NSX is on par with the most of those cars at least in 0-60mph and top speed...+/- some.
Of course no real numbers are out yet so we will see.
But again I sense a underlying bias against the NSX when it is very much on par with many of the cars and it does have stunning looks (the backside not so much)

Why does the NSX have to do a lot though? It's supposed to have amazing handling with the new SH-AWD and the Torque-Vectoring motors and so it checks that box...though of course some gripe from early tests show possible numb/understeer.
HP and acceleration numbers are in the very similar ballpark as the cars listed. It's definitely not as wild or storied as some of the cars but I think the Acura/Honda brand may hurt it.
As already been said...who would pay 200k for an Acura?
Also R8 would be a very direct competitor (as are money saving GT-R and Z06...though of course this can be a slippery slope down the performance per dollar road...).
Bang for your buck there are definitely better cars, Z06, viper, crazy V8 swapped FD RX7. I would only buy the NSX if I had money and just had to have it.

So all of your points are moot then?
The NSX doesn't exist yet. No one knows if it's reliable or not. The chances of it having Civic levels of reliability are pretty much nil.
There is no data other than fluff from Honda about the specs of the car. 573hp is not that much in this day and age and is lower than many of the ones I posted.
At the end of the day, no one knows. The NSX has been "in development" for years and many cars have come and gone in that time to the point where I'd be surprised if it was still competitive if/when it does actually launch. They said they benchmarked the Ferrari 458, which is awesome if the 458 wasn't already out of production and the new car is the 488. Things like that make me question how well this thing will actually do.
I kinda wished they woulda skipped the hybrid motors for a small turbo (to make up a bit for it) and end up with a 3100-3300lb car in the 100k-150k price range. Would've also captured the soul of the OG a little more this way.
