I really think BMW should put that motor in the 09 650 and X5.....if not also the 550. But if the 550 doesn't have it, that's understandable as its basically the last year of the E60.

only a matter of time before they came out with it........
i don't like the turbo's on top like that, just seems like a good deal of heat all around the motor.

I certainly do not doubt the BMW engineering gods here, but first glance has me going all WTF.

If I am viewing the large pics correctly; The turbo is placed where the traditional intake manifold would be and there is an air to water intercooler on the side.

This engine is going to be a clusterfuck to work on.
The head is essentially reversed.

Damn, the X6 is ugly on so many levels....but that engine is going to be amazing! They shoud've put a tuned version of it in the E92 M3..
I don't think i've ever seen a car with a reverse head like that...looks...odd lol

wow... hopefully i can get that in the next gen 5 series...
also i doubt we ever see this engine in the M3... maybe the generation afterwards... so much was said about the current 4L V8, i doubt they would ever change any time soon...

Yes, the 2010 7 Series is going to get the engine as this is obviously the next non-M V8.
That aside, I also wouldn't be shocked to only see the motor in the X6 for 09 as to run the engine for a model year and to correct any issues before expanding across the model line.

Cool, its like BMW is coming out with their own version of an Acura RDX. Twice the cylinders and two times the turbos, a magnificent engine in what looks to be a magnificent vehicle.

Can't say much about the engine, but I definitely like the looks of the X6.

Up top like that, you basically have one real hotspot....which is close to the hood and could theoretically be easily vented.
Plus, you eliminate having big, clunky turbos hanging off the sides of the engine...which should save some weight on exhaust and intake piping. It also looks like its no wider than a traditional V-8 as well.
Neat looking charge-coolers mounted on the front of the block. That is what they are, I think.
The more I look at it, the more I like it. Pretty clever idea by BMW.
The reason its being debuted in the X6, IMO, is because the thing is so fucking ugly that BMW knows they won't have to build too many of this radical engine in the first year.
