BMW 3 AT Problem

Transmission: When cold started, the auto transmission exhibits delays in engaging the first gear. The transmission had to be replaced at only 350 miles. The dealer held the car for one whole week until the part arrived. The service was satisfactory, though. The car now has 1000 miles on it and works OK.
Apparently, certain 3-Series automatic transmissions are defective. With the initial start-up of the day, the car rolls backward when put in "Drive" and the forward motion will not engage immediately. It only engages after a number of attempts and then jerks forward. BMW will only replace the transmission on a customer complaint basis. While my car is brand new ( one month old), BMW will neither replace the car nor provide an extended warranty. Their arrogant response is that they have replaced the transmission and the fact that they have offered to do so should be satisfactory. Not sure you are aware of this problem or of BMW's attitude, especially since you have rated the 3-Series so highly.

What's with AT's these days???

Did everyone just forget how they work or something? BMW's have been known to have excellent AT's.

exactly...honda has had a much worse track record with auto trannies.

and those are only from a couple owners on a forum, which means jack basically. you look at any forum for discussion on any cars and you will find similar "concerns" on any of the car's part.

they do. 2 users on a public forum isnt exactly indicative of anything, other than how the original poster of this thread somehow think 2 individual users on a model that sells nearly 100,000 untis a year can mean anything.

Agreed.

Look at my TSX (gear slippage video) for example. Just because I'm having an isolated problem, it doesn't mean all or most Honda transmissions are having problems.

Interesting to note that the C/D forum, while public, only lists the 10 most recent reviews of a car.

Thus, the 2 quoted were 2 of 10.

Not a statistically valid survey. But you can do the math.

I dun own ne auto, so I can't command bmw auto better or honda auto better. But I always have chance to drive auto 325 as loaner, since my 328 have been in for repair so many times. And 1 of them did have the bad trandy and same happened to 2 of my neigthbourhoods. Also, I heard a lot of this from the a lot of bmw forums too, so how can that be just a couple owners on a forum!

The pool of 3 series owners that would have complaints is much larger than the number TSX owners, so a larger number of 3 series complaints does not indicate a larger problem.
