Considering ive owned both a CS 90 (A4) and an e39 528i, I would like to think i know what im talking about. my audi leaked like a siv. everything. i had to replace gaskets yearly to prevent from topping off fluids faster then filling up on gas. at one point my oil leak from my head gasket got so bad, it soaked the alternator and burned it out completley.

My step mom used to own a 325xi, while i will admit it is a fun car to toy around with, its still incredibly underpowered. i wouldnt drive anything less then the 328I and even then id rather have a 540.

yeah, its the fabled 2jz engine lol. they only made a couple thousand of them with the 5 speed sadly, but in the JDM they made a shit ton of manual soarer's. you can get a 5 speed 2jz RHD soarer imported for about 8-9k canadian, which is what i plan on doing.

yes, the 2.5 just simply dies after 80 mph.. the 2.8 however really kicks ass.

OK guys, we're supposed to be suggesting options, not debating who knows more about what engine

a cs 90 is how old? I was thinking b6 or b7 at the very least.

the xdrive system adds extra weight so no surpise it felt underpowered. plus it was probably an auto.

the 528 is a heavy car, way too big for the 2.8 IMO. again, not a fair comparison...much the 540 which is a V8.

either way, you're right, it's prolly too early for him to buy a german car, they can be a handfull.

go with an acura or honda. or some sporty toyota, like a celica gts.

I agree with the staying Japanese thing. i already mentioned i was in the market for the SC earlier, the only other car i really enjoyed was the impreza 2.5. you can get a late 90's for sub 4k now with decent mileage. damn theyre fun to throw through corners.

my dad does lease return, and warrenty coverage inspections for every big warrenty company in the country. and its sad to say that 70% of the cars he has to inspect on warrenty coverage are audi.
i always wanted one, but could never go near them. they are junk. really nice junk, but even when its covered on warrenty, its still annoying as fuck to have problems as often as they do.

and if you go BMW your going to have issues as well, most likely with electronics...

not to poo poo on your parade, but with BMW, youlld have many more issues with there coolant system then you will with the electronics. electronics fuck ups is VW department lol

As for any car, if you buy it, and maintain it well. your not going to have many issues. the audi is an enthusiasts car for a reason, you need to spend alot of time with it to keep it going full speed.

i see what your saying but its more than just spending more time on it to keep it going. id say, when there is one part that is breaking on all, or most of them, theres a problem with the quality. and they have these common problems in many areas. not just motor, common suspension, exhaust system, and engine problems. when the same areas are having problems on multiple cars id say its safe to say that there is low quality.

its kinda like our trannys and window regulators, they are known problems. audi just has bundles of them.

I don't think they're too bad. I was lookin at black 1999 model with black leather and 5 speed once, I liked it alot but had a salvage title so didn't buy it.

The 2nd gen solara, on the other hand, is hideous

Solara = CL copycat. I've had several people come up to me and say, "Oh wow, that Solara looks awesome!"

Get a CL-6. Or try to find a low-mileage Impreza WRX.

Ever consider a Legacy GT?

If money is an issue, I say the 3G TL w/ 6MT. Sporty and good looking.
