Best Type Of Model Car

I need to buy a Ferrari Enzo model car for my cousin who lives over seas. I am visiting in January but i don't know much about model's. Is die cast the best? Is 1/18th very small? I am looking for something that is made of nice material, not to expensive, nor cheap , and looks nice on a shelf. (Not something to be played with). I didn't know where to post this, so any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Diecast is obviously the way to go. Hot Wheels has the 1/18 line locked up with Ferrari. Of course, if you're willing to spend more, Kyosho and Tamiya both make some very nice 1/12 diecast sets. But, those are around $300+ per...

Nah, it's not related to computers or games, so off to Car Talk we go. Probably get more replies there anyway.

FYI, the Gundam thread is from 2005, before there even was a Computer Gaming forum. Then when the sub-forum was created it somehow managed to end up in there. And since everyone knew it was there, it just stayed there. Kind of a fluke. So good theory, but still, off to Car Talk

Die-cast Maisto 1/18ths are pretty nice. I used to have a bunch of them on my shelf, looked sweet. They only cost $30 last time I bought one at Sharper Image. I used to collect those things, it was all I wanted for my b-days when I was younger.

I REALLY mean I used to have a buttload of them, almost Yumchah status. Used to have a Viper GTS, RT/10, F50, F355, 550 Maranello, 964 Carrera, 993 GT2, Ferrari Mythos concept, Diablo VT, Diablo VT roadster, old-school SL500, S2000, and a few other ones. Thats just off the top of my head. I loved them, yeah you could kinda play with them. But they were meant to sit on a shelf, and thats what they did.

Very nice looking and well built.

You can probably try like Roosevelt Field or Sunrise mall in Garden City for some diecast model cars.

Also, an easy measuring stick is to just type in "1/18 Ferrari" into eBay's search to get an idea of what you're up against in regards to cost and what's available.

It's unfortunately that AutoArt does not have the Ferrari license...but, if you're able to afford the 1/12 pricetag, the Kyosho and Tamiya models are to die for.

AutoArt is my fav. Bburago is pretty good. Maisto sucks. Kyosho etc very good too obviously but I never felt the desire to spend that much on a model.

Kyosho 1/18s are about the same price as an AutoArt, Curry-Breath.

Doesn't Hot Wheels hold the license for Ferrari Die Cast models?

A bunch of the Hot Wheels ones. The Kyosho 1/12th Enzo looks hot, but at $450.00 I'd get a Hotwheels for $80.00.
