Question Best Gasoline to Purchase

I never put cheap gas in my car but what types of gas would you prefer to put in a CL-S? I've been using either Shell V-Power or BP Ultimate. I heard Sunoco was another great choice as well. The only reason why I'm asking is last week, I got some Texaco and the car isn't somewhat as fast as when I would use the other fuels.

that's what I've heard from a couple people I know who work for various stations.

Petro-can is the best if you're here up north

I only use sunoco. I tried to search for it but can't find the post I did a while back about mileage with different stations. Sunoco seems to be very consistent with having the best mileage for me. Some people will disagree and tell you its all about the driver. If I remember correctly citgo was the worst mileage wise. I've since moved and can't find the paper I had with all the different mileage results. If I find it I'll post. Do a search and you might come up with it.

My car performs the best with Shell gas and I have tried many different name brands over 8 years of owning a CL.

It's in your head. All gas is the same as per federal standards. Too many variables go into gas mileage between tank fil ups.
And moved to car talk.

This is correct.

I have used the good stuff and the cheap stuff and they're all the same. So the station with the cheapest gas wins my business...

I've used Shelll once in my CL and after a few months it started running like shit. I stopped using it, everything went back to normal.

After i got my Prelude, I only use Sunoco 94 octane.

That is only partly correct depending on the brand and also what region of the country will dictate what additives and the formula used for the gas. I'm in California and we have tougher standards than most of the US so our gas formula is different. Different brands put their own additives in and some don't put any at all. Shell works better than the others I've tried and I'm in tune with my cars performance. In different parts of the country Shell might not be the best because their formula is different than in California.

I use Shell, Chevron, and 76. They're all close by and they're all considered Top Tier.

There ARE differences among gasoline brands.

I've seen some bad stuff happen to cars due to using cheap gas. The discount brands typically don't have the detergents that the premium brands contain and are not as helpful in preventing potential problems.

99% of the time, my car only drinks Shell V-Power. The other 1% is when I can't find a Shell station and I have to resort to BP/Amoco. Same with my GSX-R: V-Power only.

People.....additives are required by federal law. All gas brands have them. It's standardized. If anyone gets bad gas the gas is not what's at fault. It's the station. Several factors can cause a problem. Bad tanks, gas left in the tank too long, mixes of new & old gas, shady stations doing illegal things to gas to be cheap, etc.
True some brands add extra stuff that may or may not help more, but there's been no data to support it that I have seen. It's left open to debate.

I've run Vpower in my car last few tanks and its has a bit more punch to it and I am sticking with it. Why not pay a bit more for entertainment?

I use Shell and BP. Car seems to get better mileage on Shell, but only minute, say 10 per tank. I also think they are the only ones around here that have 93, the rest have 91. I know 91 is sufficient, but why not get 93 for practically the same price?

I like shell. I used to not really care but I used to drive from SF to LA once or twice a month. Would always get the best mileage per tank with shell. Noticeable too.

I've been using Chevron for years, no complaints. Occasionally I'll use Shell but Chevron is only 1/2 a mile away so I usually go there. Arco prices are cheaper but they suck and so does their gas.

We have an Exxon gas station, and a Mobil gas station down the street... they should be the same though, right? Because I always thought it was "Exxon Mobil", but this station is just called Exxon. I found I had to fill up every 4-5 days when using the Exxon gas, and using shell gas, I can go around 7-8 days without filling up. I've only been driving to school and back, so I do see a difference in average mpg.

the only stations near me at 76 and Texaco. Mostly 76 because a few years ago they bought out like 80% of all the stations in the whole area...

by the way sucks that I can never find a station with more than 92 octane....

I've had 2 members of my family swear off Costco gas after it was suggested by mechanics that Costco gas or constant use of it had lead to their engine problems. I know its a generalization but I have lived long enough to know its not worth to save a few bucks if there is a remote chance it could be true.

It is a chain of large gas stations - usually 20 or so pumps - with large convenient marts. They are all over the place here and people love them cus they always have the cheapest gas and lots of 'convenience' selections inside. I gotta admit they aren't bad at all.

I mainly use Chevron cus it is the closest and right across the street from the Quiktrip so they usually match their prices or at least get close, and have been using it for a long time now

I've never had a problem with Costco gas, which I use for the TL about 70% of the time. Used the Costco premium in the Camry V6 and Costco regular in the Odyssey pretty often too.
Then again, I haven't had any problems with Chevron, Shell or even ARCO gas either.

Mobil used to tout "meets BMW detergency standards". Means nothing to us, but why did BMW need something out of the ordinary? There were old cars you had to put a $2 can of bmw juice in the tank for every fillup.
