Best driving memories
I'll share two...
First...I was 16 or 17...I feel like this was one of the first times I had ever been out driving with friends. My dad let me take his 1979 Mustang "5.0". Went to the party with two of my friends and brother. Getting to the party nervious, but it was cool. Going back home, i guess my confidence was up because we got on the parkway and i got the car well over 100mph. Thinking back, pops wouldn't have been pleased at all. I dont think we were in "danger" but at the time it couldn't have been any more exciting.
Second...this really isn't exciting...but it's something i remember clearly. College graduation weekend May of 2005. My parents rented a 328i (or maybe 325 probably) and my dad let me drive it around the block ONLY. First time driving a BMW. While it was slow, it actually felt pretty quick around the neighboorhood, but what I remember most is how SOLID it felt. LIke the whole car was one whole piece. I've been a bmw fan ever since that day. a 4 door M3 is in my near (5 year) future.
What are some of your best driving memories?

When i picked up my 6 speed CL 2 years ago, and drove it home nervous as hell, it was my first car and first manual obviously. Only stalled once at a stop sign

Someone bump up Shoofin's Porsche event thread
mine would be on two occasions.
Years back, just turned 16, and was allowed to drive my dad's Lexus 98 Sc400. It was my first time driving solo, and it was beast car back in the day. To this day I haven't asked him where the car went....if he had sold it, or traded it in for his Chevy Silverado (I think thats what happened)...But was greatly disappoint to see it gone.
Second time, was getting behind the wheel of a 2009 C63 AMG. Mind blowing experience on the straight away. Never drove a faster car in my life and I've driven a buddy's 600HP 350z tt. I was surprised how well the power gets down to the ground on the benz, the 350z felt like the rear wheels could snap at any second. Never really been a fan of the AMG badge cars prior. Would love to get behind the wheel of the E, Cl, S class amgs as well.

Ok more seriously, probably racing this douchebag in a Hyundai Accent, cutting traffic on the freeway by using the gutter lane, and tailgating a Dodge Charger that honked at me. Coincidentally, these events all occurred in Mexico. Watch out we got a badass over here.

In HS, A friend's dad had an 88 town car. It was used as the pass around car no one cared about. Ran the thing into a brick wall, curbed hopped, ran into a tree. Everyone rode in the trunk a few times. The brakes failed completely one night, we had to bail out(like Hollywood style) & it wound up hitting 3 parked cars. A few weeks after the engine finally blew.
Same family also had a 85 Nissan stanza. 5 speed, no power steering, brakes, windows or AC. Speedo & tach didn't work either. Had heat & a radio. That became the new pass around for only a few months as it was driven from NYC to Cali & left there. Surprised it made it.

My best driving memory doesn't involve a car but a golf cart. One summer my dad I went and played golf at our local club. He drove the front nine but let me drive the last 6 or 7 holes. One of us hit a ball over in the woods close to a stream that was about 3 or 4 feet below us. Trying to back the cart up as close as I could, I ended up backing into the stream (I was only 8 so I wasn't that good of a driver.) Dad just laughed it off and everything was good but I was nervous he was going to be pissed. He ended up passing away 6 months later but it's one of my most fun memories of him.

Probably last year when we went to OBX in the Pathfinder. Something about driving on the sand running away from a hurricane is really cool. 6 weeks before we get to do it again.

Driving all over the 48 states in my '88 Accord while on leave. Cost me under $11 to fill up in most places.
I had one of the first MP3 stereo headunits and a good set of tires. What else do you need? That car was like a four door Prelude.

August 2011, 1,700 mile road trip through AZ, NV, and UT in my E60 M5. Nothing like hearing the V10 roar through canyons. Pics here: https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...&postcount=326

1. My drive home in the CTS-V was one of my all-time favorite driving memories for obvious reasons:
https://acurazine.com/forums/car-talk-5/neuronbobs-official-cts-v-appreciation-thread-6mt-v-wagon-10-yrs-old-pg-46-a-716744/
The V will be paid off in 2 months (2 years early, woot!) and I plan to keep it as long as possible.
2. My first time ever driving an S2000 was in a modded AP1 with a single exhaust. It was memorable because it was my first time driving a manual in 12 years, and because I fell in love with the sound of that glorious engine screaming at 9k rpm. I bought my unmolested AP1 shortly afterward, and it's been summer love ever since.
3. My first drive was with my neighbor in high school. It almost ended badly. He had a POS Dodge Omni 4-speed and in the process of shifting, I didn't notice that the car was close to a construction ditch. By the time I stopped, one wheel was over the edge and we had to push the car out. Needless to say, he never drove with me again. I ended up teaching myself to drive stick in my first car......
4. ....which was a 1982 Honda Civic, which I bought my senior year of college, early in 1990. I had not driven stick after that first experience, but it being a Honda, I was able to get it home. I have loved Honda manuals ever since because even a klutz like me can use them. Unfortunately, I totaled the car a few months later on an epic cross-country drive from Cali (where I went to college) to Cleveland, where I was to start medical school the week of the accident. A tire blew out on my car as I was driving I-94 near Tomah, WI, at 70 mph, and the car flipped 7 or 8 times in the median. I was belted and I WALKED AWAY. I remember that the car was upside down when it came to rest. I unbuckled my seat belt and crawled out the open window, waiting for the highway patrol. I have bought almost nothing but Hondas since then, for that reason. Honda unibodies FTMFW.
