Selling to non-Lexus dealership while in lease ?
Selling to non-Lexus dealership while in lease ?
Is this possible?
I have about 1 year left on my lease. Will need to get rid of car in the following month or so to move to NYC.
Local Lexus dealership offered me $500 below the buy-out price. So id come out of pocket $500, however, will have to go through the trouble of selling aftermarket parts. (Figure my buyout price is 24.5k, they will CPO and sell for 28k - aftermarket is tinted windows, springs, HIDs and wheels).
Is it possible to go to a non-lexus dealership to get a quote? Preferably high enough to put it towards the LFS (Lexus Financial Services) buyout price (24.5), while pocketing the difference. This way, I am rewarded for the aftermarket parts. Or will they quickly realize what my LFS buyout price is and not pay me a cent more - which would actually be preferred, seeing as it would be $500 more than lexus, and i wouldnt have to pay $100 to swap tires, and $200 to swap springs.
How does this work? Would a third party dealership match my LFS buyout price, or possible exceed it? Or is that not even feasible for them to do, based on the lease contract. Any advice?
Thanks.

I have no idea but let us know. I know you can trade a lease early at another brand's dealer so maybe you can do it. But they probably want to make money and can't CPO it on the flip.
Lexus might be your best bet. Or a private sale.

I'd maybe drive the IS to CarMax and see what you get. No idea on how they'd handle the modifications, but if what I've seen holds true, you can trade in a leased car to anyone; they'll just give you a quote, take the car, contact Lexus for the payoff, pay it off, and give you the difference if there's any.
Are there other Lexus dealers in your area? You could try a different one and see what they offer.
You could also list the car on LeaseTrader and see if anyone wants to assume your lease.

Thanks guys.
Will check out some dealerships before parting out and going through a lexus dealership bid war.
Carmax is for morons. I found exact models is stock form on that lot that had 4x as many miles being sold for thousands more than their offer. And they claimed they offered me a premium on aftermarket parts and said it would be more marketable. Last resort pricing, and lazy sellers seem evident. Carmax HQ in miami? Surprise surprise.
Spoke with leasetrader. Dealing with potential lessees quickly proved to be more of a hassle than dealing with enthusiasts looking to buy basic aftermkart parts. Lexus CPO buyout scenario prevailed here.
I've also heard nightmare stories of selling privately in miami....friend just sold his x3 to a guy that couldn't speak english and couldn't convey the message that he was legally blind during a test drive.
...so will stick with former route above....hopefully something works out for the best

Not really related except to the sale of a car in Miami thing...my buddy bought one from a dude in Miami and it turned into a 3 year nightmare. Pretty funny but a hassle that could have been avoided.
Sacrifice $500, and deal with selling the aftermarket parts on your own. You're looking to break a contractual agreement with the bank and expect to get off a lot easier than you already are...
I already told you what I think, and I wish I can help, but a RWD IS250 in the Northeast for me is
FWIW, I took off all my mods from my MINI before I returned it. I sold everything within a week of taking it all off (wheels, springs and some cosmetic body parts).
But then again, what do I know...

While I think your mods are tasteful, they generally don't add value to your car (especially at a dealer) and can actually hurt your trade in value. Like Shoofin said, you are very lucky to just take a $500 hit.
Take their offer and run before they change their mind.
Edit - While I agree you would be better off parting out, the fact that you have to pay someone to swap parts really eats into your profit. Add in the added headache of swapping parts and then selling them and it seems $500 isn't much to pay. Good luck

Thanks, friends.
No complaints, the car is in high demand here. Very lucky that the buyout hit is so minimal. My buddy just paid 4 grand to give back a jetta.
Will try and ante up dealership/in house dealer mechanics in providing labor for parts.

so this weekend is the first free weekend of only a handful...here it goes:
A) bother hitting up non-lexus dealerships for quotes?
B) swing by tirerack, swap out tires/rims and get the ball rolling on part-out

I'd say at this point, it's time to start getting the parts off. Once all the parts are off you can really get the ball rolling and get them sold. Then if you're still in the mood for shopping the car around, you can do it, but sooner or later the parts are going to have to come off, I think.
didnt want to spend the $$ on tires, since the car was a lease. so i bought some decent 18" staggered aftermarket wheels, and stretched the stock tires.
$100+ to swap tires and tpms to get the stockers mounted.
Just a question on whether or not i want to rock my stockies for a full month before sale. guess the selling of wheels will take a few weekends, and I should do this sooner than later.
