Automatic to Manual Conversion

Folks,

need some assistance with converting a 97 honda accord lx from an automatic tranny to a manual tranny. after 160,000miles the automatic tranny in the car is on it's last leg. the motor is still working fine and would like to convert it to a manual tranny.

does anyone know any shops in the dc/md/va area that sells used tranny's. also does anyone know of someone that has already done this conversion?

thanks,
jason

Although the AT might be shot, the price of a new MT and the conversion will probably approach the value of the car - in which case it does not make any financial sense to do it. You'd be better off fixing the current tranny, sell it and buy a MT LX.

You could also use the accord as your own little project car if the budget allows. If you're going to swap to a manual tranny, you may want to think about swapping the block as well. You can drop in a nice, high-revving dohc h22a from either the 4th/5th gen prelude including it's 5spd tranny for a decent price. It's a very common swap and there are a ton of aftermarket parts available. I've often wished to purchase a 92-93 accord and do this swap as a project, however time/budget/storage place concerns were too great. Just my 2 cents.

Is this going to be a project car or do you just want to keep the car for a while? I dont see any economic sense in this decision. But if your making it your project car while swapping out the tranny do some engine work for that matter maybe swap it out like gavinn said. I dont know if its ok to link sites on here like that but ive seen a few sites that sell the engine and trannys even JDM.

the accord was my primary mode of transportation until March 15, 2004 when a beautiful SSM TSX came into my life. Unfortunately I have put over 17,000miles on the TSX and want to use my accord again as my daily driver. (use the TSX as my weekend car)

I have a donor 95 h22a motor with tranny, cost = free, my friend doesn't want it anymore and he stated there are some issues, nothing a little elbow grease and wrench time wouldn't take care of.

thanks again for your help on this, keep ya'll posted.
