Autocar: Ford Mondeo > BMW...
AutoCar magazine's recent cover story comparing the BMW 3-Series, VW Passat and Ford Mondeo says the unthinkable...The Ford simply drives BETTER than the BMW 3-Series. Interesting...anyhoo, :ibtvenomandspewtofollow:...

The "King is Dead !!" part deux ??
Must be the bang for the buck angle again, eh ?? My last car was a ford, and while I did love it, when I got to 136K miles I sold it for $700. A 7 year old bmw is going to retain more value then a 7 year old ford, so that kinda kills the buzz and the "bang for the buck" angle...
Oh, the mondeo isn't even available here is it ??
I'm not even going to go into the FWD vs. RWD thang...

Ford Europe is totally different than Ford North America. Remember the 1st gen Ford Focus? It also won many praises for great combination of handling, steering feel, and ride comfort, etc. If it weren't for its so-so reliability, it would have done even better. Unfortunately, they screwed up the 2nd gen Focus...but then..it's hard to improve on something thats already so good, just like how BMW screwed up the new 5 series.
Anyways, the Mondeo has competed with cars like Alfa Romeo 156, Peugeot 406, etc in Europe. Just like the Focus, it's regarded as one of the most fun to drive FWD sedans there, probably slightly behind the Alfa. Just keep in mind that most journalists there prefer the handling/steering feel of Alfa Romeo than BMW. The only reason why the Mondeo (or Contour in NA) didnt sell well is because of its compact size. It's too small to compete directly with Accord, Camry, and Ford's own Taurus.

p.s. I had a Mondeo as a rental when I was in Israel. It did pretty good. I was impressed.

The thing to remember is many of the UK/Euro Fords would NOT sell here despite how good they are, due to price. Many people think we get the crap Escort and long for the excellent UK/Euro version, but reality is it would be too procey for the perception of Ford.

i think thats still bad that Ford doesn't sell this in it's own home country. the mondeo looks a lot better than the taurus, ford 500, and it would look good to sell alongside the Fusion.
it would be like if BMW sold the X5 here in the USA, but didn't sell it in Germany.
