compression testing will cost you 20 bucks. you can do it yourself, ity's very easy. do what you want, but if the things only running 100 psi it's an automatic rebuild which will cost you more. also considering the 50-60 mile commute, you want a reliable bike .

That said, we'll see what happens. I have full maintnence records, etc. But it is a 14 YO bike with 25K on it

Yeah I do understand, thats like 150k on a car. Also the stolen part is kinda ruff. Only thing its getting prime season for riding and it might be hard to find a good deal on one. GL on getting a good bike man.

The one thing that blew my mind back when I took the MSF, was how many people (during the riding sessions) were told to "park the bike" and "try again another time".

It's amazing how some people who really want to ride motorcycles have no business ever riding one. It's not that the MSF is difficult, but rather some people just don't understand or don't have the coordination to ride a motorcycle. It's a good thing those people enrolled in the MSF and figured out for themselves that riding a bike is not as simple as they thought...before they got out on the street and killed themselves or someone else.

there is an avg 2 month wait to take the MSF course here. i called 5 different instruction places within an hour driving distance and the soonest i can take it is aug 22. i paid 165 for mine (no lunch included on sat&sunday) the classes that provide lunch were 200+ they better be serving steak and seafood lunches at that price.

damn gas prices has everybody and their mommas momma lookin to get on a bike to be more economical.

yea $250 if you are over 21. But it also cuts out having to do the DMV Skills test

i did the MSF at mt. sac when I was 19, because once I hit 21 it would've cost 3 times as much. I think I paid like $75.

which i never understood, it is kinda counterintuitive. why is it cheaper when you are under 21?

Wow thats crazy. Here its totally free and also covers the DMV test. Its covered in four days and then your done. I actually never took the class because I signed up and when my time came I couldn't make it and they wouldn't let me reschedule until the next year. I said screw it and I rode on my permit for the rest of the summer and then took the DMV test on my own at the end of the year. Passed the test and have had my license for the last 5 years.

They provide the bike, and you must provide your own helmet, gloves, and boots.

When I got my permit all I had to do was go to the DMV hand them $10 and I walked out with my permit. Now they have changed it so that you have to give them the $10, but you have to pass the written part of the test as well. The written part is pretty simple and all the answers are explained in the handbook that can be picked up at our DMV.

The permit test in NY was just like the one for cars, an extremely easy 20 question test. Unfort I let mine expire before taking the MSF course so I have to spend ANOTHER 3 hours at the DMV doing it again.

I just did it that early cause it was cheaper, and there was no way I could afford a bike to take the test on to get my license.

After that I just passed the written test, and have had my license ever since, even though I just bought my first bike last year. I have to say though, it's been 5 years between taking the MSF and actually riding a bike, and I don't remember too much from the class, besides which pedal to push.

When you sign up for an MSF course, do you need to put in a deposit or something? I don't wanna pay for something and wait to get it later, plus I'm a little tight on money at the moment

In CA (at least for the place i took it) I had to pay for the course (the full $250) when i registered.

I just realized that every time I hear someone from CA mention something about the laws or DMV in that state I am so grateful I don't live there.

Next question, i've gotten 2 quotes for insurance of over $1100 a year! That is with no comprehensive and fairly limited liability. This is also with the insurance companies thinking I have a license and the MSF class done.

This seems like a lot of cash to me, and more then I pay for my GTO!

I assume this is for the CBR 600? If so, that is part of the reason why....add to that your garage location (this could be good or bad)....add to that your years of riding experience.....add these up and you could get those numbers you have been quoted.

Ever since I started riding my insurance has been $75/year for my bike. I use progressive so you might want to give them a shot. Granted this is on an older bike, but I only carry limited liability. I think mine went up to $80/year when I had my 1100cc bike. So im not sure what really sets the price

i got FUCKED loll i paid 170 and on the last day i was 15 minutes late and they wouldnt let me continue...i learned alot while i was there now im just gonna go to dps office and get my moto license and see if i can find a 250r...how much people been gettin out the door on a new 250r?

my insurance on a $1.5k bike is like $300 a year for just liability, full coverage would've been about $1.5k, cause I remember it would've cost the same amount as my bike in 1 year . I know my co-worker pays like $100/yr for full coverage, but he is 50+ years old, and is riding a dual purpose.

Probably has to do w/ it being a sports bike, your age and riding experience, and being in California.

I know I was paying like over $2k a year for car insurance in California, and it went down to like $600 here

They can see your insurance history unless you tell them you've been driving uninsured for the past 6 yrs which may be worse.

it could be worse. i'll be paying about 140/month for full coverage on a brand new bike. that was the cheapest i found(geico). Should go down by next year cause i have a speeding ticket on my record from early 06 that is screwing up my rates.

i was thinking about buying something like this. i have a bunch of friends that have enduros and they have a ton of fun.. because they are street legal, they ride them to trails and ride them all over. they get stopped every once in a while but the cops cant do anything because they have headlights tail lights, blinkers, its registered. Over here insurance is about 100$ / year. only downfall is that a new one costs like 4-5K. the first and last time i tried to ride a street bike i fell off of it, so i don't feel comfortable riding one.. This bike was super easy to ride and you get a big turning radius. its like riding a bike and it gets so many compliments. KLX250s..
