anyone know about BMW dependability

the reason I'm asking is for a friend. I showed him the new e90 (the 06 3 series) he's intrested in (what's equal to the 330xi now) so i think it will be like the 350xi. but i must say the styling cues of BMW has come A LONG way since Bangle took over.

I know there are exceptions to every rule, but I had a 1999 BMW M3 that was a NIGHTMARE for reliability. I only owned the car for about 3 months because it spent almost every week in the shop....and sadly that is not joking. It would get fixed, I would drive it for a day, or maybe a week, and then something else would break. It sucked because I loved the car (when it worked), and was sad to get rid of it. I traded it in for a new S2000 and never looked back.

my dads bmw has had a few problems, no more then expected (its a 96 328is), drives like new, but it has a few quirks, like windows sometimes they roll up a bit and then stop, so you do it again and they roll up and then roll down, and it does it like 3 times before it works

it's weird with Benz and BMW owners everyone I talked to that has them or owned them either say
"Oh it's a awesome car.I wouldn't drive anything but a (benz or BMW)."
then you have the opposite
"their nice to drive but their quality is worthless "

I think the new one will still be a 330xi.

But I agree about the E90. It looks very, very promising.

An AWD G35 or Legacy GT will be at least as dependable as BMW, offer similar performance, and save you $10K -15K. The only thing they lack is the image and some of the luxury. Decide for yourself whether it's worth forking over the extra $$ for a more exclusive but lower quality car.

new beemers have 4 year/50,000 schedule maintenance

if you're worried about maint costs, you can purchase a maint upgrade for $1k+ which will give you a full 6 year/100k sheduled maintenance, cant go wrong with that

BMW Maintenance Program upgrade 6 years/100,000 miles of protection
All new BMW vehicles include BMW’s Full Maintenance program standard. Depending on the model year of your BMW, you’re covered for a period 4 years/50,000 miles (2003 and newer) from original date of purchase whichever comes first or 3 years/36,000 miles* (2000-2002). To help keep your vehicle functioning at peak form, BMW now offers a Maintenance Program upgrade of 6 years/100,000 miles of coverage. This upgrade can be purchased at any time during the original Full Maintenance period. Certified Pre-Owned BMWs currently covered by the original Full Maintenance program are also eligible for these upgrades. 2000-2002 models currently covered by 3 years/36,000 miles protection can choose from the 6 year/100,000 miles plan or a 4 years/50,000 miles Maintenance upgrade.

Increase your peace of mind
The BMW Maintenance Program upgrade provides quality service by expert technicians, performed at authorized, participating BMW centers. Your Maintenance Program upgrade covers all factory-recommended maintenance as listed in the BMW Service and Warranty Information booklet. It also includes the replacement of items that are not covered by the BMW Limited Warranty – such as brake pads, brake rotors, wiper blade inserts – when wear and tear exceeds BMW specifications. Any adjustments required due to normal operating conditions are also included. Your BMW is a precision driving instrument that deserves expert care. The Maintenance Program upgrade helps to keep your BMW running its best and helps to maintain its resale value.

so that means you actually like his designs?
between the e46 and e90, nothing from bmw has looked good. the 7 is big and bloated with an ugly front end, the 5 just doesn't say ultimate driving machine. the e39 was much better looking. the e90 (minus the rear end) gives me SOME hope for future bmw design. even if it is designed by bangle.
