Anyone have carbon fiber stickers?
Does anyone have carbon fiber stickers like these?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/24-x-...Q5fAccessories
I might want to cover my trunk with it. my dumb friend took an ice scraper to my trunk for some reason when it was covered in ice and ended up scratching up my whole trunk. the scratches wont come out with wax or anything and i dont really want to repaint it. do these things stay on well? are they easy to put on?
i also got a nice crack in my front bumper from a huge pothole and i would like to fix it before it gets any bigger. i was going to buy a whole new bumper, but thats going to be about $400 after labor. i have a fiberglass cloth and resin kit from a boating store that i am going to apply to the inside of the bumper for strength. for the outside i plan on covering the lip of the bumper with this stuff (carbon fiber lip). does this sound like itll hold fine?
does anyone have pictures of a carbon fiber lip or trunk on their TL? (preferably 2nd gen)
let me know what you guys think about these CF stickers. i also saw the 3m di noc one but idk if theyre worth it or not.

i know theyre tacky in some people's opinions but i honestly like the CF look its unique. and doing the lip wont stand out too much at all, i just dont know how the trunk will look. hence why i am asking for pictures

Crap will always happen to your car. When I got my TSX when I was 18, I repaired every frickin' whoopsie until I realized that there was no point, because fate will pair you up with another idiot who will hit your car. Save the money, use it on something else.

ive been putting off fixing my front bumper and repainting my rear bumper for that exact reason.

can't agree more ... don't bother trying to fix it with a cheaper alternative if it's only aesthetic ... won't be a good investment as it'll probably go out the door soon thereafter

okay thanks guys. what do you think about still fiberglassing the inside of the bumper to give it strength? its cracked even more now. do you think its worth the work? ive never worked with the fiberglassing stuff before

Come on guys, the OP sounds a little inexperienced and only wants some advice.
OP:
Personally, I wouldn't apply the CF adhesives to anything. It would probably look worse than what you have now.
As for repairing the urethane bumper cover with fiberglass, I wouldn't recommend that either. I don't have any experience doing such a thing, but I imagine it wouldn't be as easy to do as you think. Urethane and fiberglass are different products, and such things as expansion, contraction, flexibility may differ. The two products would probably not work well with each other. I would also be concerned with de-lamination.
Personally, I would wait until you can do it correctly. If funds are short, then hit the wreckers to see if you can find the correct bumper. Hell, you might even get lucky and find one in the same colour.
How bad are the scratches on the trunk? I wouldn't really expect an ice scraper to gouge into the basecoat. Perhaps only the clear is scratched. Take your finger, wet it with saliva, and rub it over the scratch. If much of it disappears, then it's only in the clear and a good power polish will help things.

OP: Agree with Terry on this. Hit a junk yard and you might get lucky and find a bumper that is an exact match. And it will be fairly cheap compared to a repair.
And CF stickers are
Just say no.

couldnt get a good picture of the trunk because it was really dirty but this is a bumper. theres a big chunk missing in front of the tire but you cant see it too well cuz of the angle. i traced the cracks on paint, theres also a circle missing from the lip thats about 2in in diameter but i have both pieces. i will get a pic of the bumper tomorrow
ps. theres 2 pieces of duct tape on the side, i was trying to see whether black would be better than blue or not. also ziptied the part of the lip up, it was hanging down about 6 inches or so

Dude, gf's are the most expensive hookers
That being said, I would go with a matte black vinyl and do the whole car over the carbon. This is assuming you are set on doing this and yes I know it costs more but...

and to the dude that said get a job and save up: ive had a job for about 2 years now but im in high school (senior) so i dont really have too much free time to work so i only work weekends. im slowly making money but my usual paycheck is like 80 or 120 so after gas and all theres not much left to go buying new bumpers and such with

OP, I would just let it go for now. Watch until you graduate college and get a full-time job. I know that's four years down the road, but putting money into your car like that for cosmetic reasons is not the smartest thing you can do. Or, you might have what's happened to me, in that when you get your car back from the body shop looking spiffy, you get rear-ended fifteen minutes later.
It may be hard for you to do that, but trust us.
