Anyone ever own a camperized van?

Anyone ever own one of these things? For the last couple years, I've seriously been thinking of getting one. Impractical and cumbersome, but they have a particular appeal. Just something to take off for a few days with the dog, maybe tow a bike, and spend a couple days camping from time to time. And a great vehicle to tow collector cars. With fuel prices these days, they're practically giving them away.

Are you referring to a domestic conversion van like a ford or dodge full size fan, or like a VW camper van?

I dont think anyone here has owned one.

My family did own a regular Ford E-150 Conversion Van back in the day with TV, reclining seat in back to make a bed, 3 different custom lighting setups for the rear passengers, alot of wood trim and everyone got their own A/C vent for each seat...but not a camper van, no.

we drove to a couple places and it was comfortable, had decent power, and served it purpose perfectly (it was also a daily driver by my mom).

so if you know you will use it, get one!

I'm seeing these things advertised in the paper for anywhere from $10,000-$15,000. Most have them have next to nothing for mileage. This is for a vehicle no more than ten years old. When they were new they were around $40,000. Just seems to be kind of a neat thing for camping or track days.

They are neat, but I need something I can tow with.

Have you thought about just getting a bed tent for your F150? From what I've red they work quite well and are rather affordable. (250-350 with mattress). OR you could always through a cap over the bed for more weather tightness, and get one of those air mattress custom fit for your bed. Maybe not as nice, but about 9k cheaper.

Thanks for the input Dougler, but no. I want the convenience of a van.

with patience, you should be able to score a deal...

I agree with getting a van conversion vs a something for the bed of a truck. You cannot even stand in those. Depending on how far you want to roam, maybe a smaller motorhome????
