Question Any Integra guys or mechanics on here? Need advice.

The fans on my 96 LS (non vtec) integra are both constantly on. The fans stay off when the vehicle is not on. When the key is turned to accessory, or to turn the car on, the fans (both condensor and a/c fan) are on all the time. This is making the car not reach operating temperature and it's killing my gas mileage.

I have checked the relay and fuse for both fans and they are good. I tried unplugging the a/c control system as well to make sure the a/c wasn't stuck on but they were still on with that panel unplugged. I also pulled the coolant temp sensor (the one on the neck of the coolant hose on the rear side of the motor) and both fans are still on all the time.

Could this be that my coolant temp sensor is bad or stuck to the on position? What causes the fans to come on that could be bad?

I cannot see any obvious tampering with the wiring for the fans. Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys.

No CEL.

My guess would be the temp sensor or the temp control circuit (used to be a just a diode).

Changing the coolant temp sensor tonight. We'll see what happens.

Has anyone had a similar issue?

My brothers accord did that, but it was the thermostat.

I asked an Acura mechanic for you. He said to check the ECT switch. It is part # 14 on the following link:

Hope this helps.

Thanks man. I did check the ECT and it turns out some fucking moron put a paperclip in the plug for that sensor making the fans turn on all the time. Got it sorted today. Thanks for the advice and help guys.

Uhhh, why do you think someone did that?

Keep an eye on the temp gauge and coolant temp, in case the paper clip was used because the fans wouldn't operate otherwise due to a bad sensor.

The sensors are good. Plus, you'd have to be pretty fucking broke to jump a connector instead of replacing a $20 part.
