Another $54 down the drain

Freaking 3 tint tickets on this one stretch of highway in NJ. From what I was told, I-195 is a training ground for the State Police. This particular cop came from the eastbound side, in the woods, to the westbound side and pulled me over just for tints. Im really thinking about taking off the front two windows....

I took mine off after getting hassled for them in October in the industrial park where I work. Didn't feel like getting pulled over again and again since the cops often sit in the main road through the center. I got lucky and just got a warning. This was in Readington (border of Somerset & Hunterdon Counties).

What % tint do you have? I just leave my sunroof open so it lets the light in so the tint doesnt look so dark.

Otherwise, I roll down my windows if my radar goes off.

I have 20 something percent on everything. These cops just got their pubes and literally do not give you a break. Every single case, I was sitting in the right lane doing the speed limit. Thats weird that you have trouble in Readington-both my friend and I are through there regularly and have tints and no troubles.

Crazy.

At least around here having dark window tint is not a ticketable offense, its usually just probable cause to pull you over or an add-on for another ticket.

I know. I was fine for almost a year. Mine were 35%. I miss them . I liked it better when all the windows were the same - looks funny to me now without the fronts tinted. I was pulled over for just tint, too. I had just made a right turn and wasn't even up to speed yet and all of a sudden an undercover was up my butt. He had dark tint all the way around his dark blue crown vic .

I have 20 all around and never get pulled over. I usually drive w/ windows closed, sunroof closed, sunshade closed. When I'm around places where I'm not familiar with the police in the area i'll either open the sun roof or crack all windows 1.5 inches. Makes the front windows look 35%

That's why when I get my windows tinted I get the legal limit of 35% on the sides (and typically go a little darker on the back, which is also legal). I've never been pulled over for tint in my 14 years of driving. Guess keeping the windows legal has its perks

Sucks that they're pulling you over JUST for tint... however, if the tint was legal, you wouldn't need to worry about it...

It's been pretty bad everywhere...

I got 3 tickets in a 2 week period in December

one of them was for tints, its such a bullshit ticket-- i only have 35% and have only gotten hassled for it 4x in 4 years including this last time. Whenever I get pulled over I am very courteous and admit fault, but for tints I get pretty upset and tell the cop to go find something to do...It always seems to happen at a bad time and I haven't really done anything to provoke getting pulled over so I might give a little attitude.

Well it's annoying because NJ doesn't allow any tint whatsoever on the front windows. If they did allow some, I'd get the legal limit and be done with it. Oh well, I took my chances and lost.

One state trooper puber asked me if i had a note from my eye doctor or a restriction on my license allowing me to have tints. From what I can vaguely understand in the retardness of the DMV, you can get a note from your eye doctor stating that you have a medical condition allowing you to have tinted windows. I always love when I have the dogs in the car, because every single cop has freaked out because he can't see them. One cop told me they were "funny looking" and still gave me a tint ticket. I-195 is a terrible road for cops, every time im on it, I see at least 4 in about a 15 mile stretch, with the mud splash marks all over their patrol cars. The median is torn up from where they rip across to pull you over.

I have 20 all the way around, and I got pulled over twice in 3 weeks in the EXACT SAME SPOT ON THE SAME ROAD, almost at the same time (both were around midnight). I thought it was gonna be the same cop too, luckily it wasn't. So now I avoid that road after like 10pm, sucks too cause it makes my commute home 10 minutes longer! I also got pulled over by a VA state trooper while I was driving down to take the bar exam. A state trooper, clocking people on a major highway, pulls me over just for tint Ah well, I'm too lazy to get the tint removed, plus I like the way it looks.

I think it's statewide in Jersey that cops are more anal. I got pulled over in both East Bruns and New Brunswick within a months time. And the reasons I was pulled over was ridiculous. One was because "I passed on the right". No shit I passed on the right, I was trying to make my way into Circuit City parking lot.

Aren't you allowed to have a lighter tint for the front windows in NJ?

Yeh. I got one ticket a couple years back. But I got pulled over about 5 times heading through the Holland tunnel with them. I get out of them with my John Jay College ID. I tell them I teach cops and they have been really got to me about it.

What if your car is registered to a different state, and your tints comply with your state's laws? Can they still fine you for that? I'm in CT with 35% on the doors and 20% in the rear.

I got a tint ticket on I-195. The thing was I got pulled over just for tint and was not speeding and some guy was doing 80+mph flew by me. After he gave me the ticket, I ask the cop why he didnt pulled the guy who was doing 80+ mph. He looked around and just walked away. WTF?

No they cannot fine you if it's with-in the guidelines of the state your car is registered in; but that doesn't mean they won’t try. And once they do, you need to politely stick it into their faces that they fucked up and you're all legal. EG: My Bro had just moved back to Washington from Florida and unlike Florida in Washington they require that you have license plate mounted on the front bumper of your car. So he's driving one night and a cop pulls him over for not having a front license plate. My brother tells the (insert derogatory cop name of your own selection here) his visiting and the front plate isn’t required in the great state of Florida. The officer replies "Is that so?" then heads back to his car, a moment later he returns and send my bro on his way.
