The American Muscle Car/Sedan Thread

Since everyone has their own car thread on here (3series,Accord,LGT etc), I thought we should have an american muscle car thread, recognize America's recent efforts to design and sell exciting cars...I know we have CTS-V, G8 GXPs,Challengers,Grand Nationals etc..

Post your pics here.

My contribution....

GNX# 059 Nearly stock longblock, 22,000 miles 412rwhp at VERY mild boost, over 500rwhp fully dialed up. Weighs less than a TL.

Interested how much the current crop of muscle cars will weigh once they've been stripped out for road or drag racing.

I wonder if the Camaro 'body-in-white' is still available or if that got the axe in the GM re-org.

My contribution:

This particular 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 XL.

For some reason, this particular car got me good. It exemplifies, at least in my eyes, the sixties domestic performance era. For what it was, and for what it was eventually intended for. Purchased from Al Means Ford in Decatur, Georgia, it was originally ordered with a 352, four speed top loader, and 4.11 Detroit. It was ordered this way because the 427 Hi-Riser living underneath it's teardrop hood was not available in a production Ford car. It had to be ordered through the parts counter, and came equipped with the hood, induction equipment, and other goodies to make it drag racer or NASCAR stocker. This engine was installed and set up by Al Means Ford for it's owner a few months after the car was delivered. Al Means Ford was also the primary sponsor of Phil Bonners's drag Galaxies in the 1960s. This engine, very conservatively rated at 569 horsepower, is a solid lifter design, running through unbaffled exhaust. NASCAR promptly kicked the engine off the circuit at the beginning of the 1965 season. I was on this particular car while on the block, and I kick my ass daily for not stepping up a little more.

One of the most appealing things for me is an old high school football flyer stuffed into the rear seat. It was found when the car was being restored. In 1964, when new, this car was driven on a warm summer night to a high school football game. Back then, flyers were passed out showing photographs of the players and a brief description of each. Somehow the owner of this car tucked the flyer into the rear seat and forgot about it. A few short months later, after the engine and race equipment installed, it began spending it's warm summer nights on the race track instead. I think that's cool.

When this engine was ordered through the Ford parts counter, it came with the teardrop hood and everything else seen here. The high beam headlights needed to be removed and massive snorkels installed feeding air from where they once were and into the dual four barrel carburetors.

I haven't taken any new pictures in a while. Haven't been driving it as much, still constantly doing work on it. It does sit about an inch and a half lower now though - bets single improvement I've made

I've always liked your Mustang. Especially since it's a car you rebuilt and restored yourself.

You cannot however argue about the value-performance factor about the Corvette...Hands down best car I've ever owned, the power delivery is just savage..and once you drive or get driven in a ZR-1, you'll know that it's possibly as good as it gets.

That's YOURS?!?!! that post just went right over my head! congrats!!!

I didn't realize it! excellent choice Mark. For me the Z06 just has such an incredible street presence.... its once of the few cars that just makes me stop whatever I'm doing, REALLY. I almost strayed from a lane once on the freeway and another time I was getting mail and I heard something rumbling down the street and when I went to see, it was a C6Z engine braking and I stood there in my boxers like a dumbass, mail in hand in the middle of the afternoon

sorry but take some better shots will ya?

Thanks dude, I quite like it myself. It was also in impulse buy if I might say, the wifey wasn't too happy when she realized there was a black car in the driveway.

Better shots will come once she gets a proper wash and detail. Got lazy and photoshopped them at first.

Not mine, but this has been my dream to build for about 15 years now:

I was a hardcore Camaro fan in my high school years, but I have since expanded my love of other makes and brands. And yes, I'm well aware that Mustangs and F-Bods aren't musclecars.

I still hope to build that one day. Same color scheme (Hugger Orange, Tuxedo Black Hockeystick stripes) and all. Even bought the repro owners manual and air cleaner decals as a prep. Never got further than that, though.

^nice! Hugger Orange is one of my favorite colors on both the 1st and 4th gen F-Bodys. I saw one almost just like that at the Shell right by my house last year, and I had that same almost-pooped-myself feeling when I saw it. HO '69 RS/SS 396 with white hockey stick stripes, hood louvers too.

The guy filled up at the pump right behind my car too! He got tons of compliments while there and a couple of people asked what kind of car it was. Pictures simply do not do the color justice, at all. Gorgeous.

That GNX isn't mine, it's owned by a guy in Hattiesburg, MS and has been done pro-touring style with many suspension and brakes mods.

That picture is as close as I could find of mine (same rims, drop, fenders, etc.) before it was taken from me piece by piece by a crooked bodyshop. I finally have a mint low milege GN with a blown engine to put my drivetrain and suspension in. Too bad they don't make those Simmons rims anymore, I don't know what I'm going to put on there.

Have you posted the backstory before? If so, link? If not, care to share? I've seen pictures of and heard about your GNX since you joined, but didn't realize there was this much to the story.

Have you been to SJ in the past 6 months or so? I was at the Almaden area in front of a La Victoria taqueria and some dude had a GNX in front of the Britannia Arms. The alarm was going off like crazy.

sorry to hear about the GNX, frieken body shops are crooks.

that GNX with those rims are very nice.

right now there is a 86 GN with 18K sitting in my fathers garage. all original, only think it doesn't have is the rear LSD, but we can get one from an old GNX drive train, the car it self is wrecked. we still need to tune it up since we bought it last september from the original owner out in PA. just some mild things will be done to it to up the boost.

There's only one F-body I've seen of that vintage that I like more - there was a 69 in a 1995 Hot Rod Magazine. September, but I'd have to check my collection. A 383 with a T-56, all black with an updated interior, lowered...sex. I've been looking without satisfaction about any other articles or features about the car.

Hopefully things work out. For better prices take a look at some east coast dealerships and look to have the car shipped to Cali. It might be a much cheaper option...

General Motors needs to move Pontiacs and pickup trucks, and the bankrupt automaker is once again breaking out some serious incentives to alleviate dealer stocks. The General is offering 0% financing for 72 months for the Vibe, G3, G5, G6 and G8, giving prospective car buyers the chance to get into one of the last Pontiacs ever made. The "72 Hour Sale" oddly begins today and runs through Monday, July 6, which is more than 72 hours – even when excluding the 4th of July weekend.
