Amazing How "Cheap" People Seem to Think Acura's Are
I know this might not be everywhere, but at least around here on the East coast I can't get over this idea people have in their heads about Acuras. Really really bothers me, to say the least. I'm a former Lexus IS300 owner, and let me say that after owning both I like my 2003 CL-S 6MT 1000x more than that car. My IS was fully modded and for whatever reason, the name "Lexus" just got a lot more respect than my Acura.
From adults, people in their early 20's like myself, everyone it seems. For whatever reason when everyone found out about me picking up a CL-S the first thing they reacted with was "why didn't you get another IS300??" Of course I told them I test drove both and the CL-S 6MT had 10x more balls than the IS300 5MT.
My only complaint about the CL-S is the handling, the IS being RWD and having tighter steering definitely out-handled it.

I think people on the street when they hear Acura think of Interga's. I tell people I used to have an Acura CL and nobody knows what they are. They know the name Acura but that's about it, knowing it's not a Lexus, MB or BMW.

Ive noticed this also but I don't really care I know I choose the best car for me and im not a badge snob so I don't give a rats arse.
I do find it funny when the GF says something about snobs in MB, BMW, and Lexus and I say well I drive an Acura and she says "well thats diffrent". She puts my car along side Honda in her internal line up

When I was younger and most people found out I drove an Acura, they all thought it was MORE expensive then it was. So the general population doesn't seem to care. It's mainly car people who under-rate Acura's.
But overall, I never actually gave a shit about what other people thought... and still don't, so it never bothered me.

.... and if you mention Acura's supercar when comparing cars/makes, most look down on the NSX as far as power in a straight line. like John said, i like my "more expensive, more exclusive, and slightly better version of an Accord Coupe".

Sure you can compare the CLS to an Accord now but back in the day when it first came out it destroyed the Accord. Take a 2001 Accord for example. The HP ranged from 150 to 200. I won't say anything about the transmission however ... that's just silly. We all know that a go-kart has a better transmission than the CLS.

Acura TL = Value
Most people I come in contact with recognize that the TL is among if not the best value for the dollar in terms of initial cost, residual value, and maintenance cost. Those of us who own TL's of course know this. That said, TL's are not BMW's - they don't ride as well nor handle as well. They also don't cost as much, comparing Apples to Apples. I have a BMW and while it is a beautiful car and rides like no other, it is expensive as hell to maintain. Plus whenever I take it to the dealer, they act like they are doing me a favor to service it. The only knock I have on TL is front wheel drive. For that reason I probably won't buy another one. In California RWD is the only way to go.

I've never owned a bimmer so I can't speak to this but I've always 'heard' they were expensive to repair (once out of warranty of course)
Is this total BS?

My CL-s has the following replaced
6 CD changer - jams my CDs
Navigation DVD unit - it blue screened at me
driver's heat seat - back heater died
rear seat cushion - for some reason it deformed
second gear problem - 6 spd manual tranny fluid flash at Acura, problem still remains
Rattles - the whole car rattles like crazy
oh, my replacement Navi is dying again and it is not cover by Acura warranty anymore.. My Dodge has been more trouble-free than my Acura. My friend's 95 bimmer is more solid and trouble-free than my CLS and still rattle-free
Out of all these troubles, people frequently say, "That is one nice white Accord you got there".

Parts for a BMW isnt much more expensive than any other car. What you basically paying more for is labor.
If you go to any dealership then you will be overpaying for labor and parts. We all know that. So going there after warranty is over seems like a waste of money to me no matter what car you own. Sadly BMW dealers will overcharge as much as they can because they know suckers will pay it.
There are plenty of BMW independent shops who will do most of the labor for half the cost of a BMW dealer would. Most of those shops have guys who used to be BMW techs at dealers so you arent really getting any less. IMO
Prices of parts are so cheap on the internet, really does make me wonder why anyone would pay almost retail for them at dealers.
What im saying is, if you want to own a BMW and not pay a lot for maintenance then do your homework. That goes for any german car.
