Aman's 2009 Mazda 6 - Update Page 6
I parked my car (legally) and went into the building on the right. Came out five minutes later and saw this:
Fuck.
Everyone's okay, thankfully. I didn't see the accident happen, but damn the lady in the Explorer must have been flying. This was about 15 feet down from where I had parked. The passenger airbag cover and head unit were both knocked loose by the impact.
Police and tow truck drivers came and did their thing. Now it's time to play the dance with insurance.
Ugh. I know the payout is going to be peanuts. I didn't pay much for the car to begin with, but I'll definitely have to throw cash on top to get something decent. Not looking forward to going dheap car shopping again.

Good god! I'm sorry to see that...upsetting to say the least. I can imagine your frustration having to pay out of pocket to get a decent car again. I feel like you haven't had the Jetta for too long either...
Sucks. Glad you weren't in it though. Any idea at all what you might replace it with?

She moved that 15 feet? Must've been one hell of an impact. And it looks like the Jetta took it well too.
Sucks about having to shell out money for another car, but on the bright side you weren't in it. The car can be replaced, you cannot.

Wow! Definitely distracted driving! Pretty lucky no one was hurt.

Thanks for the kind words.
No clue what to get, I don't have much money to put towards a nice car. Maybe around $4-5k total.
I may just get another MK4. I still have some parts lying around that I'd rather use than sell. No more 2.0 though. Diesel or 1.8T.
7th gen coupes are coming down in price, too. Maybe a 6 speed won't be too far of a reach. And it'll feel like a rocket ship coming from a 115 hp car.
I'm temped to get something AWD/RWD though. Looking at E36/E46s, and Imprezas.
Right now it's time to play the waiting game with insurance. An adjuster should be coming out in the next day or two.

As someone that loves to view pictures and video of crashed cars to see how they perform I have to say that crumple zone is impressive to say the least. No passenger compartment deformation and it looks like the Explorer was flying. I do feel for you man and am glad you weren't in it when it happened.

Thanks doods. I'm happy with the job State Farm is doing for me, hopefully it continues.
Not looking forward to going car shopping (lot of sleazeballs in my price range), but now that my car doesn't have to double as a family car, I can hopefully get something more fun.
Haha yeah, the Explorer wasn't driveable either. Pretty sure both cars are totaled.
Dunno yet. The mileage is worrying me. I just rolled over 264k kilometres (165k miles) yesterday. But a quick search online shows many similar cars (same year, drivetrain, and similar miles) going for around $3k, which I would be happy with. I'm expecting insurance to offer a little less than $2500.
Good thing about buying cheap cars... No real such thing as depreciation
I saw this ad this morning and have been daydreaming all day:

Damn, that'd be fun!

I now know why you were asking about the BMW.
Anyhow, the biggest thing is that no one was hurt. But, the reality is, dealing with insurance and etc. from an accident is a supreme PITA. So, good luck. Given where you are and the winters you get, I'd also venture a used Subaru Impreza WRX should be considered.
You'll have an absolute riot in one. Keep us posted, dude.

As soon as I decided to sell my truck I started looking into them. You'll have a blast every time you get behind the wheel, and it would be ideal for Ontario winters (I don't have to worry about that )

Damn sorry to see that happened. Glad you weren't in the car though. I hope insurance treats you well, I heard State farm just got bought so they might be extra cheap on payouts until the deal closes to make them look more profitable. Be prepared to push for more than the adjusters first offer.
