...would you still buy a Toyota or Lexus?
For me, it all depends on what the research finds in terms of the electronics and the computer controlled throttle. Although the chances of it happening to you are so slim they practically don't exist, it still makes me wary. Despite that fact, it's going to be a long time before I can look at a Toyota or Lexus and not see a potentially dangerous vehicle.

I said maybe. And that's a big maybe. It's not just the recalls and the unintended acceleration that's turned me off on Toyota. My biggest gripe is the fact that they simply aren't making a quality car anymore. The interior of the Camry is junk compared to the models of yore, especially the '91 through '96 body style which I believe to be the peak of Camry quality and design. Since then, it's gotten slowly and progressively worse.
To win me back, they need to address every conceivable cause of unintended acceleration (including the electronics) and bring material quality along with fit and finish back up to snuff.

Never say never - but I don't think I would buy any Toyota (aside from their trucks since I really like the latest Tacoma) made in the last decade or two, even. Obviously it has nothing to do with their throttle fiasco. I can respect the kind of cars that Lexus has made for a while but I would be even less inclined to buy one. Their cars just don't speak to me despite the RWD V8 pedigree.
I'm still open to getting a Lexus or Toyota, but so far the only thing they've got in the pipeline that I'd want is that small RWD coupe. I don't give a damn what peoples' preconceptions are about the brand or it's drivers. The only thing I care about is the product.
What else can I say? I don't spend my waking moments under the influence of a sedative... Don't see why I should spend time behind the wheel like that.

before this fiasco i said that i might not buy another lexus. I prefered the acura design before. The wife and i looked at a new sequioa and she liked it. BUT now those plans are on hold and will most likely look at 2011 or 2012 models. Hopefully any issues willbe worked out by then.
But i have always avoided any models made in the US and i think the sequioa is made in the us.

Biller's documents indicated that Toyota entered into multimillion-dollar settlements with plaintiffs whenever the plaintiff's attorneys seemed to be close to uncovering the "Books of Knowledge."
The documents also indicated that Toyota had long known about problems with unintended acceleration, according to Towns' letter.

I don't see where Toyota made enough of an effort to fix their hidden issues. If it's software issue, they could have sent service bulletins to fix the software. It seems they knew and hid the issue, even when someone got close to the real problem, they were just paid off. If this is all true, I don't have any future plans in buying a Toyota when there are plenty of vehicles out there.
Need one more option on the poll!
If Toyota made an interesting product, I would consider it despite the recalls.
However, no current Toyota/Lexus products are of much interest to me.

Toyota will survive, and eventually prosper once more. As bad as the current situation is, the buying public tends to have a short memory and will eventually return to Toyota. I think the company will re-evaluate it's focus and concentrate it's efforts on safety, quality, and innovation instead of increasing it's market share.
Would I ever buy another? Yes.

I never thought I would purchase a domestic again, yet I have a strong desire to check out the 2011 Mustang GT, A Toyota/Lexus could be in the cards at some point. Companies change and evolve, sometimes in the matter of a few years.
I voted Maybe, but only because of the options. Its highly doubtful that i would purchase a toyota product, especially after this fiasco. But one can never predict the future and how/if they come out with any thing that i would ever desire or regain my trust.
Same can be said about Honda with me too, until they design something i would want to drive i wont buy another product from them either.

Maybe if they bring back the Supra
I dunno, I get this kind of vibe from Toyota where they know people are attached to the brand, and will buy the car regardless if there's something better for the same price, so they'll just make cars that are pretty much just.... passable. I felt that way before the recall but you never know, they might get their act together after all this.

Maybe I've always been a Honda man (I've previously owned two Honda 4-door Accords before purchasing my Type S), but I've always thought the Toyota's were just OK and Lexus are overpriced.
Maybe. It depends.
Not only am I wary of the safety of their products right now, but I am completely put off by the way they have handled the situation thus far. Their behavior up until now screams coverup, they tried to brush all these incidents under the rug for years now, and only started trying to fix things when the government stepped in and public outcry got too loud for them to ignore. This is totally unacceptable to me and they will need to show several years of quality, reliable products for me to even consider them again. My trust has been broken and it will take a lot to build it back up.
They also need to produce something other than an appliance on wheels, because right now, not one of their models appeals to me whatsoever. Same goes for Lexus.

Maybe, their cars don't excite me and I feel as though their quality has progressively worsened over the last decade or so. Either that or the competition has caught up.
A Lexus or Toyota truck I do like, still I don't have the need for a truck or $60K+ for an IS-F

Yeah the LS is baller even a GS460. Still I don't have the dough for it and I'd look like a fool driving around a car that costs as much (or more) as I make in a year and parking it in my apartment stall lol. Not exactly the wisest choices with my money. A lil' too hood rich for me.
The Tacos and Tundras are cool.

The only Toyota product that piques my interest even a little is the Big Lex, the LS 460. THAT car is the epitome of luxury to me. The recall has no bearing on my general opinion of Toyotas/Lexus...they are bland, floaty cars that are absolutely no fun to drive. Yes, I know I am generalizing, but there's something I don't like about Toyotas in general. So, my answer is "no".
Hondas/Acuras, even the current ugly ones, are at least entertaining to drive with sharper steering and more composed suspensions.

Am currently looking to trade in our 06 Sienna for a 2010.
Yes I would without question buy another Toyota. The Japanese will take this as a life lesson and come back guns blazing and up the quality of their products. They have way too much to lose.
Unlike the US mfgrs who would just go and cry to Daddy Obama and ask for more money to help woeful old us.

after the 96' land crusier that we had for awhile, theres not a design that our family really needs from them. we have the 04' lexus lx 470, but its pretty much the land crusier too.
the sequoia would be ours, but its price is simply too high for the vehicle. a 64 thousand dollar sequoia? wow.
in all likelihood, we're going to be an infiniti qx56 over it. if toyota can come up with good designs at a BETTER price, imo it's roots, itll come back better than ever.
maybe take a more hyundai route...

I voted maybe. It was the closest option.
Lexus models are overpriced, and there's nothing that Toyota cars make that interest me. Toyota truck owners (at least a plurality) fall into the dickhead driver category - but I still like them.
Maybe. More likely a truck.

I voted yes, after recall is over... but really I'm between maybe and yes.
We are keeping an eye on things as we have been eying a GS as a replacement for the A6. We wouldn't be in the market until late 2010, early 2011... so we're just watching things progress. I have a Toyota FJ Cruiser and I love it. My wife also had a 1994 Camry that she bought in 1997 and ran into the ground (almost 200k trouble free miles). So current issues aside, we've had nothing but great Toyota experiences... so we'll see where this ends up...

if I had the money to buy a lexus, I'd probably spend that money on a BMW or Audi. And toyota doesn't have any cars that appeal to me, except Tacoma. I like those alot actually and if I was to get a truck I'd probably go for one of those.
i voted yes since it was the closest option.
despite the recalls, i would consider one IF there was a model that interested me. perhaps that little sports car that toyota/subaru are working on together.
Yes...if there was one in the line-up that I cared for.
The whole recall thing is way overblown. The odds if it occuring are a joke, and the political witch hunt and grandstanding is quite sad.
