Advice on speeding ticket

I got a speeding ticket a month ago on my way to Vegas. I have yet to recieve anything in the mail regarding the ticket. So I starting calling last week to ask my bail amount, and I keep recieving a busy signal trying to talk to the clerk. I've called close to 40 times a day since last thursday (excluding friday holiday), getting the busy signal everytime. So I gave up trying to talk to a live person and went to the automated phone menu and entered my citation #. Well to my suprise there is no record of my citation. Seeing that my day to appear is next Tuesday, I don't wanna give up and end up getting a failure to appear or something like that. What do I do if I don't know how much the ticket is for? I have no problem paying, but what do I do? I went to my local police station today at lunch, but they said they couldn't do anything for me. I've also called the CHP station that the ticket was issued from, and they said its out of their hands after the ticket is issued. I'm wondering if the officer even turned the ticket in. It was only 5mph over........maybe he didn't want to mess with it.

Any suggestions?

I also tried to find the "ask a cop" thread, but I couldn't find it.

Thanks Guys

You were given a ticket for 5mph over?? Was that the only reason you were stopped?? Sounds like the cop got cold feet.

Print a copy of the website showing the citation number is coming up invalided.

itll show up eventually... trust me!

ive had that happen to me quite a few times. i recently got a speeding ticket about 3-4 weeks ago and i still havent recieved anything. i was doing 86 in a 65. i let the car roll down the hill (trying to save gas) but i get pulled over instead. people that ive talked to said that my ticket can be anywhere from 250 to over 500. so im shitting bricks rite now.

I got the ticket for a 75 in a 70 on the 15. Yeah suprised me too. There is no website to do the search. It's all done over a phone service.

This is just ridiclous that they turn the phone off. Whats funny is that they close at 4, and I called last thursday at 3:59pm and got a busy signal. Turned around and called right back at 4 on the dot and got the an automated message saying the times the office is open.

I just don't know what to do.........any other suggestions?

Not 100% true...I got a ticket for 8 over one time, sent in my payment & received it back in the mail 2 months later w/a note saying there is no ticket for me. I called once a month for a year & a half and it never showed up.

Yeah, I don't know if the calls will show up on my cellular bill since it was a busy signal.......

I'm gonna type up a letter tomorrow and send it certified mail, just so I can show I tried to contact them. I'll make copies of the letter and go from there.

Yeah, try calling with cellphone, if you have detailed billing.

I would also go back and recreate a "phone log" and write down the numerous attempts you've made noting time, date and result (busy signal, automated message, etc...).

The certified letter is a good idea to CYA.

I also concur with the above poster that said it might never show up as it's happened to me.

Damn only 5 over on the 15 sucks. My old roommate got a ticket and never received anything in the mail, so she decided to show up at court the date the ticket listed. Worked things out from there.

6 years? I'd like to think there is a statute of limitations on tickets, thats ridiculous
