C32 reliability

Hey ...

My bro drives a 2002 C32 ... so far, it's pretty good. He's had some initial quality-control problems (eg loose sway bar bolt that took 3 trips to the dealership to discover, ABS sensor recall, key fob wouldn't work) but the car otherwise is solid.

Based upon the bittersweet "quality" issues, I think my bro is going to sell his car and go back to Honda / Toyota next time around *before* his warranty runs out (most likely the new Lexus GS). He almost flipped when he heard the brake sensor was C$1500 parts alone! His '91 Accord (worth 4x less than his C32) he traded in never had those problems when he had it and tearfully traded it in with 250000km on the odometer.

Hope that helps. I hear the 2003 models resolve some of the 'quality issues' that the 2002 had.

I wouldn't reccomend it...it is really, really expensive for what it is...m3 is probably a better deal and handles better...if you're hellbent on luxary and have the money then upgrade to an e55, or wait for the c55

Try to find a 03 model b/c many of the bugs have been worked out or a well maintained/serviced 02 (my situation). I havent had any realibility issues . You can find one with less than 30k miles in the low to mid-30s depending on the options included. Extended warranty is a must if you want to own the vehicle past 4yrs/50k miles.

C55 is going to be close to 60k, so i would save for the e55/m5 if i was planning to drop that much coin.

bkknight369 - how is the M3 a better deal? The M handles better with a harsher ride, but has slower straight-line (I have raced 6MT & SMG several times when I was stock). kbb for the M is $40k+ while it's $35k for the C32. It's just depends on what you want in the car.

MB makes a great car, but, unfortunately, they also make one of the least reliable cars. MB is also one of the most expersive car to repair!!! That being said, I suggest that you would only consider the ones with extended warrany so you can drive for a few years without taking out a second mortgage for repairs. Short of that, you are asking for trouble

a new m3 starts at arround $47k, c32 starts at arround $53k. options can rack up on both, but i still think a loaded m3 is cheaper than a loaded c32. But you're right...its what you want out of a car. If I wanted luxary performance and had the cash, id probably opt for a c32 myself, but as of now id prefer one car that leans more towards performance (m3), and a second car thats more towards luxary (fx35 etc)
