No offense to any Corvette enthusiasts, but I just can't see myself being a "vette person" no matter what they do.

 

To update you guys or the skeptics on these DEEP discounts, what I heard on nsx prime from a mod: "Acura is giving dealers $30k incentives but my understanding is that dealers are not allowed to advertise those discounts. "

 

Which so far, are only 2 dealers and 3 cars. More dealers doing this will destroy the used market of these cars; I can't foresee why Acura would be intent on destroying the resale value of their halo car a year in, by offering the car new at a price that undercuts a pre-owned one.

We talk in this forum about how terrible Acura has been with its owner base, so I'm sure someone who bought a new NSX not even fully loaded will be pleased to find out his $180,000 car is now worth less than $130-140,000 with a couple thousand miles on it thanks to the manufacturer approving a dealer to sell his exact car, brand new for $150,000, the price his car shouldn't even be valued at right now based on the used market.

 

 

at one point not long ago, I was considering trading both my V wagon and the current NSX for a new NSX. I have since decided that this wasn't a very good idea. I didn't realize the V wagon was going to be such an instant classic. It was just going to be a fun daily driver when I bought it. Now I have an extremely rare, instant classic. Who'd get rid of that? I instead got rid of my problematic RLX for a TLX A-Spec, which explains this....

ROFL man, that was a bit much. Maybe I missed my calling as a porn writer. The 2018 TLX shows that Acura is at least trying to listen to its customer base. Hopefully some of that listening rubs off on to the NSX, so changes that lead it to better sales can be implemented.

...and at every meet I ask the same question. Old NSX or new? The answer almost all car nerds (I am one, thanks) will give is "the old one". The old NSX is just so cool, and younger people enjoy looking at it. I let people sit in it and on occasion, turn it on and rev it up. I've been driving the hell out of it--11k in almost two years already. It looks good, feels good, rides well, and is AMAZING on the track. I understand the old NSX wasn't always that cool, especially in the early 2000's, but it's really come back. The cool factor and the driving experience are what are keeping me in my current NSX.

My bet is that NSX 2.0 will eventually be cool. Even though I like the car a ton personally, and am a true believer in the Sport Hybrid tech, the fact is that the car just doesn't do it for most people. Hopefully Acura will turn it around. All I can tell you is that my ride in the #902 NSX Pikes Peak race car a few weeks ago, at Road America, after a rainstorm, was simply awesome (and slippery). There's no doubt the new NSX is capable on the track.

I agree with you. But, if dealers are desperate to unload 2017's, they will do whatever they can (and allowed) to dump/fire sale existing inventory. I bet all 2018 will now TRULY be customer ordered based on what has happened. And yes... I would be pissed if I picked up an NSX, even at MSRP at this point. But you couldn't have predicted this incentive/discount.

More people are reportedly going to dealers and bringing up the Acura incentive. Someone on prime just picked one up @ sticker (just over $160k) and he walked away at $122k.

Very fair assessment. I'm really interested to see now if this picks up steam among potential buyers and how the used market will react.

It goes to show that Acura does not have the brand cache to sell cars at that price point. Even their absolute flagship super car can't cut it in the market. Because really, who the fuck is Acura anymore in terms of brand cache, as compared to anyone and everyone else in the market these days? Most people dropping 160 plus large on a car do it in part of the status that car also provides. The NSX is a sick car. But it has no pedigree, no history. The original NSX is just too long ago to be associated with the new one. It just popped up like a mushroom, after a rain storm. Killing all their sports cars and super cars in the past and not developing much since has really hurt Acura in a major way these days. No one buys a super car that is associated first and foremost with reliability and safety, more so than raw, winning, sport.

Buuuuuuuuuuuuut.... at 122 large... that's a different story. Now it's also a value proposition.

 

Jesus 122k is an incredible deal. Paper spec wise it's actually insane. Where else can you buy a new, 570hp, AWD, R8-comparable weight, supercar for less than 130k? No where else.

But as Taco eloquently mentioned, looks like the biggest problem is the Acura badge AND the fact that it doesn't hit any ONE category out of the park and it's not another re-iteration of the original NSX.
