Acura Customer For Life? All owners chime in!

So I was talking with my dad about Acuras, this is my first good Acura (I had a 90 Integra) and my dad has owned alot of them, I told him that after owning this one Acura has pretty much got a customer for life, he agreed and said that Acura really knows how to get a customer, I was then curious to how many of you guys felt the same way, not just CL owners, all Acura owners.

i grew up in a family who mostly (if not entirely) drove hondas/acuras and toyotas and I can say these are great cars, but there are other companies who over a different approach to cars. each car company has a view on what should be on a car, and it's okay to try new things.

i'm looking forward to check out some german cars next.

I am a longtime Honda/Acura customer but am definitely open to different makes. I almost bought an Infiniti M35x instead of my current RL, and I've been a Mopar owner in the past.

My next purchase may be an Acura, but I'm definitely going to look hard at buying RWD cars the next time around if Acura doesn't get to it. Cadillac (the new CTS is going to be HOT, and if there's a CTS-V variant again..... ) and Infiniti are are the top of my list.

I'm not planning on getting either a Honda or Acura as my next car only because that is what cars I've driven my whole life. Hondas heyday was back in the late 80s and 90s when the Honda Accord was the best selling car. Now with the Automatic transmissions failures and bland styling I want to move on. I'm not sure about Acura because this is my first Acura, but I think their heyday was also in the 90s with the Legend, Integra, and NSX.

I've owned Hondas all my life so far: 88 Accord (lasted 11 yrs and 134K miles, no probs until 10 yrs old with the radiator), 99 Accord (not as durable as the older Accord, had ignition switch failure and other problems and got rid of with 94K miles), and 04 TSX (aside from rattles, cd storage bin door broken, and the 2 recalls, it's running fine at 38K miles).

Next car is either a Nissan/Infiniti G35, G37, FX35, or EX35, BMW 3 series, or Lexus IS250 or 350.

Only way I buy another Acura is if they come out with a new 2DR coupe that is RWD and has 300+ hp all in one. Though i don't see them making a RWD I would still consider if it was FWD and appealed to me.

If Acura doesn't hit "another" home run w/ the next TL, I will most likely look elsewhere - like a 535 or 550i from BMW. The 3er is too small and the G is too ugly inside and out IMHO. Since the M35/45, GS350/430 and E350/550 does not come in manual tranny I will stick w/ BMW. If the RL comes w/ a V8 and manual tranny I would forego the 535 and the 550.

Optimistically speaking, I am hoping the 4G TL hits a homerun- again like the 3G TL did.

I've had an RSX, TSX and looking like an 07'RDX, and mine dad has a 03-04 MDX and is looking to get an 07' MDX. Acura has always been really good to me and my father, and while they might not be the hottest or fastest car on the market, their styling and features appeal to me. I'm always open to another car maker, but so far, I'm happy with Acura and their features. I was toying with the idea of a Trailblazer SS, but I'm really not ready to give up on the awesome features and interior of Acura as of late. Sure, I would like to see more power from any Acura, but I'm happy with the overall qualities of the car enough.

No more Acura for me... errr... I meant no more FWD for me.. I bought another brand new bimmer after owning one bimmer for less than 7 months. It is going to be very difficult to go back to Acura with all the funs I have with my bimmers.

I have always had hondas and acuras , I'm waiting to see what the 4G TL brings. I love the current Type S so I expect the next gen to be nice or i'll probably go to Lexus GS models.

i love thacuras and the brand, but lately it just hasn't been there. the reason i didn't go back is because of what they had to offer, and that was not AWD. in my family we primarily always had honda/acura but more toyota/lexus. this time around i went for the lexus just because it had what i needed and was looking for. i love both the acura and lexus interiors a hell of alot more then infiniti. i think thier new stuff feels a little cheep in side where my lexus i feel like i got what i paid for.

between me an my immediate family, we've seen a lot of acuras:
me: 91' Legend
Dad: 01' CL-S
Mom: used to have 02' RSX
Aunt: 05' RL
Cousin: 06' TL
Cousin: 92' Integra

I think as far as luxury cars go, Acuras always have been a great bargain (ie. you get a lot for your money). But i've driven my aunt's RL, and I couldn't help but think that it wasn't THAT much nicer than an fully spec'd out accord, and came with a bunch of features that i know I would never use.

I'm driving a pathfinder now, and i'm missing my old acura, so maybe in the end i'll realize there isn't much else out there, but I want to try something new. I'm kinda bored with all honda/acura. In the future when looking for a new car, I'll probably almost always see what honda/acura and toyota/lexus have to offer before looking at other companies.

honda/acura has not wowed me yet while other car company has. nissan has the Z, infiniti's whole line (almost) has wowed me. the fx, g, and m. bmw has some nice cars, not too durable, but nice. audi/vw are okay. toyota has the new tundra, lexus has some nice is and gs, scion is still new, but popular.

so what has honda wowed us on? the tsx, tl and accord have many similarities... too similar. the new si is okay if they're still targeting the ricer crowd which is dying off, but suitable for college students. rsx is done. new acura concept doesn't deserve the nsx tag. acura/honda needs more 2 door coupes and sport(y) cars. they discontinued the integra/rsx, the prelude, haven't changed the s2k much...

all in all, they need to step it up.

They've got nothing that I want.

THIS is a flagship Acura:

Otherwise, I'm not going to bother worrying about some overpriced luxo-boat.

I grew up in a mostly-Honda family and have been driving Hondas ever since I started driving. Currently own a 95 Integra sedan, drive an 03 TL-S (partially own) on weekends and Civic EX (hand-me-down) for long commutes. About to sell the Integra for a 91 MR2, so I voted for the 2nd option.

Would like an S2000 if I could afford it or a 5MT/6MT E39 to replace the TL-S if anything, and no I'm not a badge whore. My sister has a ES350 and it just screams luxury but every time I drive it, its a bore. I hate the floaty steering and overly soft ride. Same goes for my dad's 04 Camry LE. Feels too much like I'm playing a video game instead of driving sometimes. I think a GS350 test drive is in order.... I also see an NSX in my future someday. I'll reserve judgment with future Acura/Honda models until they actually come out. If the 4G TL has 6MT and RWD I definitely see it in my future someday.

I don't see the RL coming with a V8 AND a manual tranny, but if they offered a sport package with the above and a stiffer suspension package....

Acura has to go RWD. Sports sedans are gaining more and more power, and to keep up Acura will have to either give the TL RWD or SH-AWD, the latter of which will steal sales from the RL for sure.

Wrong wheel drive:

I'm not a marque specific guy, so I'll buy whatever fits my needs/wants at the time...

Nothing in the Acura lineup right now that I'd buy. Seems like Acura wants to cater to suv and sedan owners and that's fine, but I'm not a soccer mom, so another coupe is probably what I'll end up with next.

My CL will be 5 years old this year, do it's probably time for something new... (I'm getting bored). Since the NSX won't be out till god knows when (2009 MY ??) and a rumored sub-nsx till later (2010 MY ??), I'll have to buy something else or continue to drive the CL until acura makes something for me... Maybe I'll by something else, and wait for a future acura coupe before I return to buying acuras.

BMW and Infiniti are probably top on my list...

I voted #2 as most have already.

History of cars:
1) '91 Accord EX (hand-me-down from my dad ... loved that car ... still miss it since it was great)
2) '02 TL-S (love this car and will be extremely difficult to sell without regretting it down the road like the Accord)

I contemplated a used '02+ NSX imported from the States and then mrsteve told me about deals to be had with a '07 S2000. They matched the price at the Michigan dealership ... but I know of the export ban Honda USA has for their dealerships. I can circumvent that (ie ask family to buy it, I buy it from them and then import) but the wife doesn't like the idea of 3 cars for 2 people.

But I'm with Greenie -- nothing in the Acura line up that is really exciting (ie RWD coupe). Going to check out the G37 when it comes out...

Nope, I buy what suits my wants, and Acura currently offers nothing I want. Plus my CL was built like crap, way to many rattles.

Also let me add that Acura still hasn't distanced itself a lot from Honda, unlike Lexus which has distanced itself from Toyota and Infiniti which is starting to distance themselves from Nissan.

I like Acura but they don't offer a single car that I want. Come up with RWD (even though SHAWD is very good, Acura has to understand that not everyone wants AWD), a V8, and a DSG type tranny and I will come back.

Down the road, I MAY look at a TL, but I kinda want something different. RWD coupe. But NOT a Infiniti G35x .. During my first visit in Cali, that was the only car I saw. It was nice to see ONE up here last summer, because we have no Infiniti dealer here .. but once I saw that 1 out of 10 vehicles were G's in the states, I got turned off.

That said, I'll definitely be wanting a GTO.

i like Honda/Acura, but like a lot of what others have been saying, there is nothing out there currently that peaks my interest.

I bought a cl-s because at the time, it was the perfect car for me, and I still would've had it had it not been stolen and shot up. But I think a lot of people at Honda overestimate brand loyalty and think they can depend on it. I owned a Honda Civic prior, and that is why i went with the Acura over anything else. But if they don't offer a LOYAL CUSTOMER what they want (in my case, at least RWD and V8), they are NOT going to settle, especially if they're spending $45-50k or more.

That's why I wanted BADLY to like the RL when it came out as a replacement for my CL-S. But unfortunately it didn't wow me as much as I hoped, and the dealers attitude and lack of knowledge about the car were real turnoffs.

As for RWD, i will not be going back to FWD ever. I have no problems in snow with snow tires, and if anything, i would go AWD...but never FWD again.

I owned a 2001 CL-S. Was not real happy with the tranny situation and it will be a while before I buy an Acura. Maybe a RL but I think I will go Lexus GS first.

My other gripe. Every time the car went in for service, it was easily above $300. My Camry cost me $180 for the 30k service and that included a $15 extra for a mini detail (vacuumed & cleaned in the interior as well as interior windows).

Yes the service at Acura is a rip and sometimes the service is subpar too.

Infiniti service is top notch well at the Infiniti dealer they go to and Mercedes too is top notch as well. My folks have a G35, had an I35, and had an ML before.

My Accord is my first Honda product ever, and after nearly two and half years of ownership I'm very happy. If in the future I was ever to purchase a well built, somewhat entertaining, and reliable car I would definitely consider a Honda/Acura product.

Not a chance. After having to deal with my transmission and getting the run around at the dealer on multiple occasions, if Honda/Acura came out with really perfect car at a great price, I may consider it, but it would have to be awesome to make me want to put up with Acura dealer service and questionable dependability again.

My mom has a Lexus IS. Everything works, feels tight and solid, the steering wheel doesn't shake when you brake, the transmission doesn't slip, there aren't any drooping plastic bits, no rattles, etc. etc.

My next car will probably be a Toyota, built in Japan thankyouverymuch.

I totally agree with you on the dealers. There seems to be a consistent issue on these boards in treatment at Acura dealers. I think the way I'm treated at mine is great, but at another dealership in my area, I was treated very badly, almost criminally. Acura really needs to police its dealers.

I see alot of posts on dealers making or breaking your next Acura, I am really suprised that they handle things so badly, I know that the Honda dealership in my area is policed very heavily with surveys and they say up front "if you can't give us a perfect on our survey, we will do whatever it takes to get that "perfect" score." I am very suprised that Acura doesn't do the same. I have an 01 CL_S and am really happy with it. I think that in 2 or 3 years I will be trading up to a 05 or 06 TL and just keep bouncing up through TL's until I can make the jump to an RL. I'm only 22 and have about 2 years of college left so I will get the TL once I have a real job, i'm actually looking forward to doing all of this because I like my CL_S so much. I parked next to my boss who has a 2005 3 series BMW which he gets for free from our company and when we were putting our golf clubs in our trunks he noticed my car and said it wasn't ok for an employee to have a better car than his boss, he then said he wished he could have an Acura instead of (point at car) that ! That made me feel pretty good considering hes 20 years older than I am.

I voted 3 but would consider being a 2...my issue is that we've been an Acura family for 20 years ('86 Legend LS, '95 GSR, '96 Integra, 2001 CL-S, 2003 CL-S, and 2003 TL-S across my parents, me and my sister) but I think it's about run its course with me.

Acura's not really doing much in the way of exciting designs, and the FF layout is not something I'm really interested in any longer. And, they seem to be experimenting with smaller, turbo-charged engines which isn't really a direction I want to go in either. On top of that, I've always had alignment issues with Acuras.

All that being said, I couldn't beat the value from my '95 GSR, 2001 CL-S or 2003 CL-S at the time. Acura's great with that, but I think that's beginning to slip too (TL-S at $39k?). I think once we get into that price range I start looking at Infinitis, MBs and BMWs.
