99-01 TL-P or 2001 Maxima GLE or CL 2.3

My friend is deciding between these cars to buy. He likes my CL and was thinking about getting a 99 2.3. He also drives a 2002 Maxima SE and I explained to him that the 2.3 would feel real slow if he drove it. In your opinions which would you choose a TL-P or the Maxima GLE..I told him the Acura of course since I'm biased.

Just curious but why is he going from an '02 255HP Max to an '01 with 222HP?

I'd never trade my 02 Maxima for an 01. I'd really miss the VQ35's power delivery (which is abundant). As far as trading my 02 for any Acura, I'd only consider a slightly used 04-05 TL 6MT (if not new) or maybe a CL-S 6MT and pass on the rest.

I must of explained it wrong he already has an 02' and is getting another car so he was wondering which one of the 3 choices to get.

Oh I see, makes sense now. In that case then I'd get the CL just because it's different, no sense on getting another Max unless if it's a really good deal.

What 3? Max, CL, TL-P? If of those 3 the Max. Fastest of the 3, better transission than TL, better looking IMO than CL. Big con is premium petro only but I think the TL uses it too?

That said, I'd get the CL as well. Outside of the engine, HIDs and wheel/suspension, the 01 Maxima is not that different from the 02.

CL, does he have a price range??

The 99TL is $9,500
The 99 2.3 is $9,000
The 01 Maxima is $10,500

The price for the Max sucks. Why the downgrade?

Ohhhh. That changes everything.

Either way I don't recommend the TL because the tranny will break.
The CL is too dang slow but if it's for a 2nd car daily driver then gas consumption will help. If for another owner then probably the Max. But for that price it better have low miles. I see 00-01 in the 4 figures already.

99 tl tranny's aren't that bad it's 00-03's you need to worry about, I have 111k+ on my 99tl, original tranny and it shifts smooth as new.

The 98+ Accords had tranny problems so unless it's a C block (1st gen), I don't see how it will avoid tranny problems.

Unless the TL-P is significantly under 100K miles, I would choose the Maxima as well.

I'm sure you all know the reason why... the transmission is covered under warranty up to 100K.

The 1st gen CL is just too much of a downgrade IMO... it's got a mid 90's feel to it. The other two (TL-P & Max) feel like 2000+.

Just my two cents...
