When I had my 99 Accord in for servicing at Open Road Honda (~5 years ago), I saw several Honda Passports in the service bay. Either it was very coincidental timing in servicing OR

Search by Isuzui Rodeo and you will probably find what you are looking for.

Look it up using its REAL name, the Rodeo..

Lets just say they were the ONLY vehicles at Honda you couldnt get the extended warranty for

Passport?! That's the only badged Honda in the last 10 years that's not really a Honda. It's an Isuzu ... I would avoid that like the plague. My friend's '02 Rodeo is nothing but problems. Extrapolating his experience back to a '96 ... not good news, my friend.

The Acura SLX wasn't an Acura either (Isuzu Trooper).

If you want a Honda run-about, why not a used CRV? Yeah it's a chick car, but it is pretty much bulletproof.

thanks everyone for the warning...

I would, but wanted something bigger. The pickup I rented after the move has been a big help and I would like to keep that option open a little. Trying to find a tacoma or frontier also.

The older ones like 96 are tanks. In fact all SUV's from this era are. Yeah they have problems, but they are all the same problems, & you would expect them for any car that is 10+ years old. Oil leaks, other leaks, ac charge, worn suspension etc. Maybe back when it was new you can compare, but as I said anything in this year range will have simlar problems just cause of age & use.
If your looking in that year range you shouldn't expect it not to have some problems.

I didn't realize there was an "SLX"? We never had that model in Canada, nor the Honda Passport. (I suppose it would be the same as the current Acura "CSX" or "EL" that we have in Canada but not the US...)

Nevertheless ... getting a CR-V would be a better idea than a Passport.
