94-95 Integra?

I know a lot of you have had an Integra, what kind of problems have you had with the car, or that are known to be common with this car?

I know a lot of Civic's have cracked head gaskets at higher mileage, is this also true for the Integra? Does anyone know if the engine is non-interference?

I'm looking at a '95 LS (yeah I know, but GSR's are hard to come by and are expensive relatively ) with ~100k miles, for $2700. Engine seems good, clutch is good, interior is good just need some vacuuming, paint is faded, headlights and taillights all have water in it (shouldn't be too hard to fix).

It does have a noise occasionaly with the power steering, and ABS light is on (owner claims that it still works, but dealer couldn't reset the light...)...

i've owned two 1994 integras. I dropped motors into both of them and didnt run into any problems except a cracked exhaust manifold.

a buddy of mine has a stock LS with 160k on it. im his mechanic and havent had to do too much to the car. his tranny is grinding in 3rd and reverse (will replace this summer), put on a new valve cover gasket, and needed a new clutch master cylinder. all these repairs took place after 100k, the car was in need of nothing but basic work up until about 110k.

whatever problem you have, it is cheap to fix compare to other cars...

Integra parts are cheap.. they are reliable, so thats not really an issue.

I'd be more worried about theft, vandalism and high insurance rates.

My sister drives a 95 integra with 120K miles. Engine/tranny are fine, but the body is a mess.

reliable car and for that price you should fine..I'd get it, but being you are from NY it may be a target for the engine. They like to put that motor in the civic hatch and boost the hell out of it.

How much should I talk them down to?

hmm.... very good points you guys have brought up..... especially being a car that's cheap to fix..

I checked the insurance and it seems to be ok at least with this LS... but I am a bit concerned about theft. I have a friend who recently got his GSR (in very good condition) stolen when he went to NJ... I didn't think the B18A (right engine code?) on the LS was also a target too, but now that you guys mentioned it, I do remember it being popular for ppl to put it in Civic's and boost it...

So all this aside, how much do you think I should talk them to, without being unreasonable? They listed for $2700, but the car will need some work possibly for the power steering, ABS, the headlights/taillights (you can probably put a small ecosystem with fish in it ), and definitely need new tires. It does have a few rust spots near the rear fenders as usual, and as mentioned the paint is faded...

I'd pass. All those little issues seem to add up, esp. the rust.

You can find an integra in much better condition than that one. The faded paint has always been a problem on those integras, but otherwise I assume its not to difficult to find ones in better condition without paying too much more.

hmm... so you guys think it's not a good buy?

I'm considering this car only because mechanically it drives very good (including the clutch), and the interior is almost like new (after vacuuming). It's also a one owner car that seems to have been well kept (except for the body, apparently they don't wax it).

What are your plans with the car? Are you looking for a long term daily driver/a car to mod/an alternate vehicle?

Not going to mod it, just plan on using it as a daily driver and drive it until it falls apart... might take some 2 hr trips on occasion.... If I can get 5 yrs (or 100k miles) out of it without any major repairs... I'll be happy with it

I had a '97 integra till it was totalled by a hit and run driver

but, I haven't heard of any "big" problems with the car.

my '97 had a problem with the o2 sensor (too bad I was out of warranty).

other than that, i didn't have any problems with mine and I had over 150K miles on mine and it was still running great.

when it was totalled even the insurance co and the dealership said the engine was in great shape.

but then again, i always took it to the dealership for services.

I miss it

not going to mod it!

it would be a good commuter car. not heavy on gas, and the integra interiors are so damn simple and nice. that's one thing I miss about it.

I've got a 2001 Integra. The 2000 and 2001 models are nice, the ones before them look dated. Too much black trim, etc

I know the moldings on the gs-r painted. But when you order them from the dealer are they pre-painted? if so you could swap them?

Just sold my 95 Integra LS a little over a month ago and got myself a TSX.

Anyways, some common problems i can think of (mostly small) include the cam seal leaking oil. Apparently this is a common problem for B-series engines.

The tail-light gasket can leak during the rain and will result in water in the spare wheel well.

Poor factory paint quality, but i think that has already been addressed.

I had these problems and through research, realized that many other integras did as well. Overall, it was a great car that treated me very well.

my bro had a 94LS, my friend right now has a 94LS. Great cars. My bro put header, intake and exhaust on that car, and it got up quick for what it was. Tons of after market support for them too. The GSR is tight, but ya hard to come by sometimes. Was very reliable for him, and is for my friend. He loves it.

Drove my old Integra to 205,000 miles - no big problems with the engine or tranny. The O2 sensor went bad so the check engine light came on. The engine ran great but the body was so rusted it was unsafe to drive.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, I appreciate it!

I think I might be getting this car, but seems like at 109k miles, the owner hasn't replaced the tranmission, brake, power steering fluids, and fuel filter... (planned to replacing them anyway)

Good thing timing belt and water pump was done...

Hah! funny we're kinda doing the reverse... I have a TSX and I'm getting a 95 Integra LS...

Can you tell me a little more about the cam seal leak? how much to fix and what are the symptoms? (I'm not a mechanical guru)

and the tail-light gasket, is that the outer gasket? All the headlights and taillights on this car that I'm looking at have condensation or a puddle of water in them...

That is kinda weird.

I wish i had pics, but i'll do my best. It's not really a big deal, it's just messy and leaks a fair amount of oil all over the place. When looking down onto the engine, the seal is on the lower left corner of the valve cover. I believe it's for the exhaust cam. It is located right in front of the distrubutor cap. The stock seal is just a round piece of plastic/rubber and can be replaced with another factory plastic one or an aluminum aftermarket one with o-rings. I went with the aluminum one and didn't have any problems.

Replacement is fairly simple..just remove the valve cover, replace the old cam seal and slap the valve cover back on. You might also want to consider getting a a new valve cover seal as well.

Hope this helps!

BTW: My teggie went beyond 150k mi. without replacing the tranny or clutch. If you do decide on getting the Integra you will enjoy it.

oops, forgot your other questions. Condensation inside the lights is usually an indication that it is either cracked or the seal/glue holding the light together is crapping out. Look for cracks and if there aren't any, you can just use silicone to create a better seal over the old glue.

As for the water leaking into the wheel-well, i'm pretty sure it's an outer gasket that fits somewhere along the top of the tail-light. Sorry i can't be more helpful with this one. I never fixed this problem since it hardly rains over here.

one thing i forgot to mention, and it occured on both my integras...the fucking sunroof drains would clog up...it seemed to happen more on the integra than any other car ive dealt with. i got tired of dealing with the problem so i just ran duct tape along the sunroof during the winter to stop the water from coming in.

Ahh ok, I think i kind of know what you're talking about, I replaced the valve cover gasket and the o-rings for the spark plugs last year on my old Civic, fairy simple... so sounds like it's not a bid deal like you said (I did notice some oil along the valve cover on the Integra.

I just a month ago redid my exhaust manifold on my 94 Accord with 300 k on it. For a new Honda Exhaust manifold I think it was like 200 or 250 then I took like an hour from the time I got the tools out till It was "road ready." it's not really that hard it's just getting to it.

Any good Integra forums?

I think I'm going to pickup this car for $2400, I guess it's a pretty good price for its (mechanical/interior) condition..

Any recommendations for a good Integra forum? I've been reading stuff from team-integra, but wanted to check with you guys...

racersky, a GSR will likely be beyond my planned budget as well... I'm looking within the ~$2500 range... thanks for letting me know, though

umm the 98-'01 Integras looked exactly the same. You're thinking about the lower model rs that came with unpainted parts including the last years of it's production.

Yes, but the 2000 and 2001 models were the best.
And I love the standard ACURA floormats in my '01...
even though the all-weather ones do conceal the
embroidered logos.

The RS models should have simply been badged HONDA.
