438 hp hybrid!!
Lexus announced the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) for the all-new 2008 Lexus LS 600h L luxury hybrid sedan. The Lexus LS 600h L will be the ultimate Lexus statement, providing the highest level of luxury, technology, performance, safety and efficiency.
With an extensive list of standard luxury equipment and technological features, including the world's first full hybrid V8 powertrain, the 2008 Lexus LS 600h L will carry a base MSRP of $104,000 when it reaches Lexus dealers in June.
The full-time all-wheel-drive 2008 Lexus LS 600h L will be the world's first vehicle powered by a full hybrid V8 powertrain and will be mated to a newly developed dual-stage electronically controlled, continuously variable transmission. It will deliver power and performance on par with modern 12-cylinder engines, producing more than 430 horsepower while still delivering fuel efficiency equal to or better than the combined fuel-economy ratings of V6 all-wheel-drive mid-sized luxury sedans. The 2008 Lexus LS 600h L will also carry a Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV) rating, emitting nearly 70 percent fewer emissions than the "cleanest" of its competitors.

as much as i love lexus, their hybrids gas mileage achievements aren't that impressive. the GS gets 25C/28H, and the RX gets 31C/27H (no, i didn't switch those numbers) which is a considerable amount more than the stock vehicles but still, unless it's consistently breaking 30+ mpg, is it really worth spending the extra $2500+? i just think it's silly to spend more money to save on gas mileage.

Now if it got in the 40mpg range I'd be impressed!

huh....I was just noticing the fact the the "limo-like" long wheelbase Lexus is a few inches longer than the 2 door CL. My point being, the CL is a long c ar.

Do people who spend 104k on the car really worry about gas money? And I mean its not getting that great of mileage anyway. As for the power for 104k you can get a lot more then 438 HP. Other then people who really care about the enviroment I cant see many people buying this car.

To those who are complaining about the 20mpg.. It is better than all of its closest competitors (10 mpg better than the s600), matches the hp output of the bmw 760, and is cheaper than its competitors.. why not
IMO lexus is really going places with this car

it's kinda like, if you saw a overweight man refilling his cup at the fountain stand with half Coke and half Diet Coke... makes you wonder if that does any good for him?

I think due to its novelty and high level of technology, there will be a flock of Lexus-fanboys (and fangirls) to pick this car up. I'm sure there are the corporate types and the Hollywood stars who want to "do something good for the environment". (I will say, this car producing up to 70% less emissions than some of its competitors is a pretty impressive statement.)
Besides ... at $104k ... price is pretty much not even a consideration to those who can afford it. It needs to have a gimmick for a sedan to sell.
Most of us here wouldn't buy one because we probably don't have the money and/or we don't have a sportscar at that price range and would rather buy that instead.
