3M Headlight Kit Results

my 530's right headlight clouded over so I plopped down $30 (I think) and had at it.

Before:

After:

It took about half an hour with a multi-step process being involved but was well worth it IMO. Huge difference driving home from a wedding last night in the country where there's no streetlights.

It looks much better. My advice is to apply Blue Magic Headlight Sealer every other week or whenever you wash the car. It will keep the haze from coming back. It keeps my JDM headlights on my RL looking brand new

Looks good. I am curious about what the difference between these kits and traditional cleaner wax is. I remember using a Meguier's three-step on my headlight housings, and got the same result. It does take some "elbow grease" but it worked great. Even Mequier's Scratch X followed by a regular wax seems to do the trick. I am glad to say that my car is in a garage at home and at work, so I haven't had to do this in years. I do wax the housings every once in a while though.

I recently wet sanded my headlights as well. I researched the clearing a bit and saw that a Mineral Spirits/Spar Urethane mix can double as a long lasting UV clear coat as well.

Get something on them quick to preserve your good work or you'll be sanding again in a couple of months!

Did this Friday on two cars. I have used the 3m kit before and personally I prefer to buy different grits of sandpaper and get the job done. I believe the 3M kit comes with a 500 or 800 grit as the first step. To avoid sanding too much of the headlight material I asses the lens to determine what grit to start with. The lowest I've had to go with is 1000 then I continue with 1500, 2000, 2500 and 3000. After sanding I buff with 3M compound, polish with Meguiars Plast-X then seal with Blue Magic Lens sealer.

I just did this to my "new" Pilot tonight with the Meguiars headlight kit (hand-sanding) as those headlights were severely oxidized. They look much better but I may have to re-sand a bit. HUGE difference these kits make. Thanks for the tip on preserving the work done, the Meguiars kit comes with protectant as well.

I have pretty much found that anything 3m brand works as advertised.

I was ignorant about the whole thing really-just walked in to Autozone and asked which kit did the best and got referred to the 3M kit. Minimum amount of risk cost-wise so I went for it and glad I did.

I used the meguiars kit on my 7. Results were good, I think i started to lose my patience and need to go over it again.
