Nothing involving the 24 Hours of LeMons or Buttonwillow this year (or last year) in the Racing & Competition thread.

I'm in if we get a couple of other AZ members, plus a trailer in the (likely, if I'm driving ) event that the Integra gets thrashed.

I forgot about the bribes-- not mentioned in the interview of Lamm, but were in the other C&D articles on LeMons-- to set off value of the car.
How many T-Bones should we put under the hatchback, along with the bourbon, for inspection?

Alright. So far, it's Will and me. We need about 4 more people, at least, to make a team!

Probably a bit early for Buttonwillow threads but here's the forum for teams looking for drivers:

Thanks, Steve. I actually went ahead and registered and went through all 7 pages.

There are 4 threads out of the 7 pages with teams that need a driver in SoCal.

Sounds like it can be a blast!

Quote: We need a couple-three more idiots... umm, I mean... AZ members driver/crew members -- preferably one with a tow rig or car trailer, for after the race.
PM me if you don't find a tow rig by late Nov. Finals week is a couple of weeks afterwards and I believe my nephews birthday is that weekend, but if I'm not too busy I might be able to provide a tow to/from the track.

I didn't register, but went through the site to review costs, etc.

Nuts-- gotta buy a Nomex suit along with a helmet, plus budget for costumes.

A lot of the present participants estimated costs of about $4K for the first race, less thereafter, most of which is fees, suits/helmets and safety equipment.

Everybody who wants in should feel free to send me $1K by Paypal!

I wouldn't care about being towed there; the car should run fine going to the track.
It's coming back that's the issue, as Buttonwillow requires that we remove our own wrecks rather than leaving them there.

How old is your nephew-- can he drive, or lift a gas can?

That's why we need a 10-man team.

Will, it's good that you're a lawyer. You can read up and find the loopholes.

No no no...

I think it's listed at $3,000. So say $2,700 cash out the door.

After that you sell the wheels, seats, radio, door panels, etc. Everything. You'd probably be able to get close to that $500 mark.

I highly doubt 90% of the cars are actually purchased for $500.

That was just the cheapest 5-speed CL I could find.

There are cheaper automatics for sale but (shockingly!) they need transmission work.

Well, Will, whatever car we drive, I want it to be a stick!

It's a 6-speed. $4,990. Worth the penalty laps?

Entry is going to be ~ $800/person.

Mike's E30 isn't whole right now.

$800, does that include everything? Entry, car, safety gear, upgrades to the car? etc?

If we could get more people, that should bring costs down to reasonable price.

Yes, $800 should cover everything. But, to get it to be that price, we'd have to have a 7-8 man team.

That would be perfect, if we could get a cage, afford spares and get the damn thing for less than a grand.

Wait-- know any AZ members/potential drivers who can weld the roll cage? The cage is $500-$1000, but install is about that too.

There are a max of 6 drivers, but non-driving team members = unlimited.
We need at least one cook, one waiter/bartender, a janitor and two strippers (preferably female) for a non-driving pit crew.

Wait. What are we going to call ourselves? If, by chance, we can get sponsored by AcuraZine, we might have to go with your Teg, Will. It would be awkward to be running a Bentley being sponsored by "Acura"Zine, wouldn't it?

Funds are scarce, I'm just a college kid on a tight budget. I was just offering a tow back since I thought it'd be a fun event to witness. I don't have any experience at tracks, only autocrossing. I was also gonna mention I don't have the gear, as Will said after your post.

Car doesn't matter-- we could call ourselves "Illegal immigrants of AZ" or something along those lines...

Depending on physical size, drivers and refuelers could share helmets/suits-- that would save another $1000+.

You may also get a discount for bringing a transport rig, equipment and other non-monetary contributions (college girls , but don't tell my wife ).

Wait-- do you actually know how to use it?

If so, we need to get our asses into gear to get a team together, think up a name + theme and apply for a spot in the 24 Hours @ Buttonwillow.
Once the team is accepted, we will have to decide on a car and acquire it (if not my Integra), then get parts and prep it.

Wait, he's no longer a regular here, is he? I don't think we can get a Viper for $500.

Just remember the cardinal rule of the AZ team: no releasing of bodily fluids in borrowed suits or helmets.

You guys are def gonna need brakes, tires, mandatory rollcage (that meets specs), helmets, flame retardant suit, ect and will need to strip the car down to almost nothing in order to even be competitive. It also helps a lot to make the car creatively themed as not everyone who tries to enter gets in. Not trying to burst anyones bubble I say go for it, but do realize how serious people who compete in this actually take it. It looks like a damn fun event and well worth it! Be ware of the peoples curse if your car is over $500.
